IBLS
Monday, January 02 2006 @ 10:46 AM EST
Contributed by: Anonymous

IBLS was originally based on damnsmalllinux, designed to be a webserver version of dsl. It has now been rebuilt from scratch, to use the latest kernel and software.

It is designed to be modular, with cool package management designed from the ground up to run from cd, and also from hard drive. Development is currently going on to allow it to boot over a network. The package management system allows packages to be loaded, without any ram being used. DSL and Knoppix both load packages into RAM, which wastes space.
IBLS uses unionfs, to allow users and applications to modify any file on the filesystem. The initrd and packages are merged with and rwfs, which can be on any disk, or in ram. On bootup, IBLS will search your disks for packages and an rwfs, or else create one in ram. If you have your rwfs on a disk, the changes are still there when you reboot.
