Ubuntu Applications - Part II

Last week we brought you part one of this series about configuring and using Ubuntu Linux. Today, we present part two from Tuxme.com.

Last week I walked you through customizing Ubuntu after a brand new stock installation. Now that your system is upgraded and tweaked to your liking, it is time to make sure that you have all the most important applications installed. In part 2 of my Ubuntu article series I discuss some of the more common and very useful (to me at least) apps and how to install them.

In general the only downfall of the stock Ubuntu installation that I found was that there was not enough support for multimedia applications. Usually installing a dvd player software package makes you deal with lots of supporting libraries and dependent downloads. Thank god for Apt though because with this it was a snap to install everything I wanted, well almost.

Below are the programs that I installed along with instructions. I've tried to group them together as best as possible.
