PCLinuxOS Preview 8 Release
Tuesday, December 21 2004 @ 12:30 PM EST
Contributed by: glosser

Here's something we all need, a new distro...PCLinuxOS preview 8 was released last week. What's PCLinuxOS you say??

PCLinuxOS Preview 8 is an English only self-booting live cd initially based on Mandrake Linux that runs entirely from a bootable CD without installing anything on your computer. Data on the CD is uncompressed on the fly allowing up to 2 GB of programs on one CD including a complete Xserver, KDE 3.3.2 Desktop, Open Office 1.1.3, Thunderbird 1.0, Firefox 1.0, p2p filesharing and much more, all preconfigured and ready to use!

PCLinuxOS Preview 8 is now available via bittorrent download. This release includes updating of the mklivecd scripts by Tom Kelly and the mklivecd team to support the 2.6 kernel and udev. The livecd installer has been updated and experimental usbkey support has been added to allow the user to save their settings to a usbkey disk.

PCLinuxOS preview 8 is a development release and should be considered beta software. A lot of work has been done for this release, with more improvements to come in the future. Feedback is encouraged and appreciated as we march towards an official 1.0 release in 2005!
