Friday, June 11 2004 @ 11:34 AM EDT
Contributed by: Anonymous

The Scribus Team is also pleased to be chosen by Trolltech as one of their "Cool Applications". We on the Scribus Team are honored to be recognized as such and appreciate the recognition.

Major Changes and new features since the release of Version 1.1.6:

  • Scribus has a new improved EPS (Encapsulated PostScript),PS (PostScript) importer. Scribus can import EPS and PS files as vector or postscript outlines, which can then be edited as native Scribus objects. This uses Ghostscript as a helper app and we recommend all users install the latest version of Ghostscript available for their distro for best results.
  • New Gradient Creation and Import features - Scribus now offers multi-colored gradients, as well as Free Linear and Free Radial Gradients. In particular, importing SVG files from Inkscape SVG is dramatically improved.
  • All known Crash Bugs fixed.
  • Several dozens of UI improvements and bug fixes.
  • There is a new Ruler Tool for setting Tabs and Indents. Tabs and Indents are shown per text frame.
  • Updates to the Czech,Danish,German,Finnish, French,Polish,Ukrainian and Welsh translations.
  • New Splash Screen and Icons
  • Added "Insert Lorem Ipsum" for sample text in frames.
  • Added a frame independent baseline setting for text frames. This allows baseline alignments for multi-column text.
  • Improved navigation/panning with mice and mouse wheels.
  • A new Settings Menu. All application settings are easily reached.
  • A new translation, Basque, has been added. Scribus now is translated into 25 languages.

About Scribus:

Scribus is a GPL desktop publishing (DTP) program primarily developed on Linux, but runs on most Unix platforms, as well as MacOSX. It is designed to be both user friendly and powerful for advanced users with powerful press-ready PDF export including advanced PDF 1.4 features. Scribus supports Unicode text and fonts including right to left scripts, CMYK color, color separations including ICC color managed previews of images and embedding ICC profiles in PDF documents for accurate screen to print color. Scribus is the first open source application to feature full ICC color management with littlecms. Scribus was the first DTP application to directly export fully conforming PDF/X-3, a demanding ISO standard for creating "press ready" PDFs.

About The Scribus Team:

The Scribus Team, led by Franz Schmid, is comprised of experienced (avg. age 36) pre-press, IT and programming professionals dedicated to making Scribus a user friendly, but professional level DTP application.
