GenaWare today announced planned support for the GenaMap suite of spatial tools and core GIS software on Linux ready IBM eServerTM pSeriesTM systems, lowering the cost for customers deploying the Linux® operating system on 64-bit processor technology. Equipped with breakthrough POWER4+TM processors, the new IBM eServer system costs substantially less than a comparably configured Itanium ® 2 based system from Hewlett-Packard. These eServer systems with the POWER4+ microprocessor are transforming the economics for midrange server customers by redefining the price/performance matrix; they are affordably priced without making any compromises on reliability or performance.

The IBM eServer p630 and eServer p650 offers pSeries configurations dedicated to Linux. They also supports AIX5LTM, IBM's UNIX® operating system, and a combination of Linux and AIX5L in logical partitions.

The IBM eServer with the latest 64-bit microprocessor, POWER4+TM takes advantage of IBM's most advanced 0.13 micron fabrication process and contains over 180 million transistors. The POWER4+ chip is available at 1.2 and 1.45 gigahertz. The POWERTM family of microprocessors is among the most widely used in the industry and can be found in Nintendo game consoles, Apple computers and some of the world's most powerful supercomputers and storage systems.

Through its Linux Technology Center, IBM contributes key operating system features to the Linux community that can help improve flexibility, performance, scalability and reliability and bring Linux further into the enterprise. These open source features for use in Linux exploit eServer pSeries systems management, clustering, Internet services and security.

IBM is dedicated to Linux, the world's fastest growing operating system, and AIX, one of the fastest growing enterprise operating system with sophisticated functions including dynamic partitioning. IBM's support for Linux on IBM eServer pSeries systems is complementary to AIX and represents an unprecedented level of choice and integration for customers.
