Alice
Alice is an innovative 3D programming environment that makes
it easy to create an animation for telling a story, playing an
interactive game, or a video to share on the web. Alice is a freely
available teaching tool designed to be a student's first exposure to
object-oriented programming.
It allows students to learn basic computer science while
creating animated movies, simple video games, where students control
the behavior of 3D objects and characters in a virtual world.
Alice is also used at many colleges and universities in
Introduction to Programming courses.
Alice is supported by the Sun Foundation, Oracle, Electronic
Arts Foundation, The National Science Foundation, Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency, Hearst Foundations, Heinz Endowments, Google,
Disney and Hyperion.
Features include:
- Interface is designed to provide an easy, intuitive
interface for novice, experienced, and non-programmers alike
- Drag and drop environment to create computer animations
using 3D models
- Designed solely to teach programming theory
- No syntax to learn or remember
- Add objects to a 3-D world and use each object's built-in
