Zed Ex
Zed Ex is an emulator for the Sinclair ZX81, a hugely popular
home computer that was a low-cost introduction to computing
for the mass public.
See the amazing ZX-81, perfectly preserved in software since
prehistoric times, brought to you for your entertainment and
exhilaration.
Zed Ex is based on z81, a Sinclair ZX81/ZX80 emulator with
versions for the Linux console and X.
Features:
- Full ZX81 transparent keyboard
- Choose gamepad key mapping
- Custom gamepad layouts
- Physical keyboard remapping
- Invert screen
- Emulate VSYNC visuals
- GL optimizations
Verdict:
Zed Ex is the perfect emulator to reminisce.
The truly remarkable thing was that even the unexpanded ZX81
(with its miniscule 1K of RAM) could produce gaming gems such as
1K ZX Chess which managed to squeese in an albeit incomplete
implementation of chess in a mere 672 bytes of RAM. Whilst the demands
placed on Android hardware by emulating the ZX81 are very low, Zed Ex
is
a robust implementation.
7/10
