du

du (abbreviated from disk usage) is a standard utility used to estimate the file space usage; space being used under a particular directory or files on a file system.

This makes du useful for tracking down wasted file space such as files and directories that take up large or excessive amounts of space on a hard disk or other storage media.

Features include:

• Print sizes in human readable form
• Numeric sorting
• Exclude files and directories
• Reverse the result of comparisons
• Find the directories that consume the most space (e.g. du -h ; | grep ^[0-9.]*G | sort -n)
