xterm
xterm is a terminal emulator for the X Window System. It
provides DEC VT102 and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals for programs
that cannot use the window system directly. This version implements
ISO/ANSI colours and most of the control sequences used by DEC VT220
terminals.
xterm is the standard terminal emulator for the X Window
System. A user can have many different invocations of xterm running at
once on the same display, each of which provides independent
input/output for the process running in it.
Features include:
- Pop-up menus to set terminal modes and characteristics
- Automatically highlights the text cursor when the pointer
enters the window (selected) and unhighlights it when the pointer
leaves the window (unselected)
- Scrollbar to move the screen image up and down - text lines
scrolled of the top can be brought back again
- Emulation of Textronix 4014 terminal (graphics)
- Cut and paste of chunks of text
- Chosing colors for text, background, etc
- Chosing fonts
- Settable (programmable) keys
- Allows character-based applications to receive mouse events
as keyboard control sequences
