blueMarine
blueMarine is an open source project for digital photo
manipulation. The basic idea of blueMarine is to implement a generic
and open platform, plug-in
expandable, to support the whole workflow of a digital photographer,
starting from the photo acquisition up to the archival and printing.
The blueMarine user interface is similar to that of Apple
Aperture and Adobe Lightroom.
blueMarine can import photos from an external storage or
camera and let the user organize them. The user can assign tags (both
preset and user-definable) and perform queries using different
criteria. Photos can be organized by Galleries and Trips. blueMarine
also provides support for geotagging and can display maps with
geotagged photos in an embedded viewer.
The software is expandable via a plugin system.
Features include:
- Non-destructive image processing. blueMarine treats your
files as "digital negatives" or "digital slides," never changing the
original even when you make modifications. This means that you can work
safely and backup your photos a single time, just after the capture,
and allow blueMarine to keep track of your later editing in its own
database
- Camera RAW workflow. From capture to publishing, blueMarine
allows you work with your original RAW files without the need for file
conversion. blueMarine supports the RAW formats of many leading camera
manufacturers (see list below)
- Project management. blueMarine allows you to manage
multiple projects and provides simple but powerful ways to catalog and
retrieve your digital assets
- Basic editing. blueMarine supports the most basic editing
features such as exposure and contrast tuning, white balance
correction, channel mixing
- Geotagging. blueMarine takes advantage of location-aware
technologies such as GPS, allowing you to tag your photos with
geographical information
- Web Publishing. blueMarine allows you to create digital
galleries that can be published on the web in a few minutes
