I have compiled a complete list of all the software packages that are installed on the Eee PC. Due to the large number of packages, this list has been divided into 6 manageable parts.

Name Version Description
kaddressbook KAddressBook is the main address book application for KDE; it enables you to manage your contacts efficiently and comfortably. It can load and save your contacts to many different locations, including the local file system, LDAP servers, and SQL databases.
kalarm KAlarm provides a graphical interface to schedule personal timed events - pop-up alarm messages, command execution and sending emails. There is a range of options for configuring recurring events.
kalzium Kalzium is a program which shows you the Periodic System of Elements (PSE). You can use Kalzium to search for information about the elements or to learn facts about the PSE.
kappfinder kappfinder searches your workstation for many common applications and creates menu entries for them. This package is part of KDE, and a component of the KDE base module.
karm KArm is a time tracker for busy people who need to keep track of the amount of time they spend on various tasks. This package is part of the official KDE pim module.
kate Kate is a multi document editor, based on a rewritten version of the kwrite editing widget of KDE. It is a multi-view editor that lets you view several instances of the same document with all instances being synced, or view more files at the same time for easy reference or simultaneous editing. The terminal emulation and sidebar are docked windows that can be plugged out of the main window, or replaced therein according to your preference.
kbruch KBruch is a small program to practice calculating with fractions. Different exercises are provided for this purpose. The program checks the user's input and gives feedback.
kcalc KCalc is KDE's scientific calculator.
It provides:
* trigonometric functions, logic operations, and statistical calculations
* easy cut and paste of numbers from/into its display
* a results-stack which lets you conveniently recall previous results
* configurable precision, and number of digits after the period
kcharselect A character set selector for KDE.
kcontrol The KDE Control Center provides you with a centralized and convenient way to configure all of your KDE settings.It is made up of multiple modules. Each module is a separate application, but the control center organizes all of these programs into a convenient location.
kde-i18n-zhcn Chinese Simplified (zh_CN) internationalized (i18n) files for KDE
kde-i18n-zhtw Chinese Traditional (zh_TW) internationalized (i18n) files for KDE
kdebase-bin Contains miscellaneous programs needed by other KDE applications, particularly those in the KDE base module.
kdebase-data Contains the architecture-independent shared data files needed for a basic KDE desktop installation.
kdebase-kio-plugins Core I/O slaves for KDE. Includes the base kioslaves. They includes, amongst many others, file, http, ftp, smtp, pop and imap.
kdegames-card-data Several different collections of card images for use by KDE games.
kdelibs-bin Contains all the common binaries with are used by KDE applications. You need these binaries to run KDE applications.
kdelibs-data Contains all the architecture independent data files commonly used by KDE applications. You need these data files to run KDE applications.
kdelibs4 Contains all the shared libraries used by all KDE applications. You need these libraries to run KDE applications.
plugins Allows audio CDs to be browsed like a file system using Konqueror and the audiocd:/ URL.
kdepasswd A simple application which allows users to change their system passwords.
kdepim-kio-plugins Includes the pim kioslaves. This includes imap4, sieve, and mbox.
kdeprint Contains the KDE printing subsystem. It can use CUPS, lpd-ng or the traditional lpd. It also includes support for fax and pdf printing.
kdesktop Contains miscellaneous binaries and files integral to the KDE desktop.
kdm kdm manages a collection of X servers, which may be on the local host or remote machines. It provides services similar to those provided by init, getty, and login on character-based terminals: prompting for login name and password, authenticating the user, and running a session. kdm supports XDMCP (X Display Manager Control Protocol) and can also be used to run a chooser process which presents the user with a menu of possible hosts that offer XDMCP display management.
keyboardstatus 1.0.0-0xandros9 keyboardstatus is a system tray applet that replaces the LED indicators found on most keyboards with icons in the system tray.
kfind file-find utility for KDE. kfind can be used to find files and directories on your workstations.
kghostview KGhostview is KDE's PostScript viewer. It is a port of Tim Theisen's Ghostview program which is used to view documents prepared in Adobe's PostScript page description language. PostScript is the major page description language for printing on UNIX systems, and this application is useful to preview material intended for printing, or for reading documents online.
khangman KHangMan is a game based on the well known hangman game. It is aimed for children aged 6 and above. It has four levels of difficulty: Animals (animals words), Easy, Medium and Hard.
khelpcenter The KDE Help Center provides documentation on how to use the KDE desktop.
khexedit KHexEdit is an editor for the raw data of binary files. It includes find/replace functions, bookmarks, many configuration options, drag and drop support and other powerful features.
kig Kig is an application for interactive geometry. It is intended to serve two purposes:
- to allow students to interactively explore mathematical figures and concepts using the computer;
- to serve as a WYSIWYG tool for drawing mathematical figures an including them in other documents.
kipi-plugins 0.1.2-3xandros13 KIPI plugins (KDE Image Plugin Interface) is an effort to develop a common plugin structure for Digikam, KPhotoAlbum (formerly known as KimDaBa), Showimg and Gwenview.
kitchensync Contains a synchronization framework, still under heavy development. It also contains the multisynk GUI frontend. This package is part of the official KDE pim module.
klipper klipper provides several additional featues of the traditional clipboard functionality like the ability to offer actions to take dependent on the clipboard contents. For example, it can launch a web browser if the clipboard contains a URL.
klogd 1.4.1-18 The klogd daemon listens to kernel message sources and is responsible for prioritizing and processing operating system messages. The klogd daemon can run as a client of syslogd or optionally as a standalone program. Klogd can now be used to decode EIP addresses if it can determine a file.
kmail KMail is a fully-featured email client that fits nicely into the KDE desktop. It has features such as support for IMAP, POP3, multiple accounts, mail filtering and sorting, PGP/GnuPG privacy, and inline attachments.
kmenuedit The KDE menu editor allows you to make customisations to the KDE menu structure.
kmessedwords KMessedWords is a game that is based on the word/letter puzzles that the author played as a child. A word is picked at random and displayed with its letters in a messed order, with difficulty dependent on the chosen level. You have an unlimited number of attempts, and scores are kept. This package is part of the official KDE edutainment module.
kmix Includes KDE's dockable sound mixer applet.
kmplot KmPlot is a mathematical function plotter for KDE. It has a powerful built-in parser. You can plot different functions simultaneously and combine them to build new functions.
knode KNode is an easy-to-use, convenient newsreader. It is intended to be usable by inexperienced users, but also includes support for such features as MIME attachments, article scoring, and creating and verifying GnuPG signatures.
knotes KNotes is a program that lets you write sticky notes. The notes are saved automatically when you exit the program, and they display when you open the program. The program supports printing and mailing your notes. This package is part of the official KDE pim module.
kolourpaint KolourPaint is a very simple paint program for KDE. It aims to be conceptually simple to understand; providing a level of functionality targeted towards the average user.
konqueror Konqueror is the file manager for the K Desktop Environment. It supports basic file management on local UNIX filesystems, from simple cut/copy and paste operations to advanced remote and local network file browsing. Konqueror is an Open Source web browser with HTML4.0 compliance, supporting Java applets, JavaScript, CSS1 and (partially) CSS2, as well as Netscape plugins (for example, Flash or RealVideo plugins).
konsole Konsole is an X terminal emulation which provides a command-line interface (CLI) while using the graphical K Desktop Environment. Konsole helps to better organize user's desktop by containing multiple sessions in a single window (a less cluttered desktop).
kontact Kontact is the integrated solution to your personal information management needs. It combines KDE applications like KMail, KOrganizer, and KAddressBook into a single interface to provide easy access to mail, scheduling, address book and other PIM functionality.
korganizer A complete calendar and scheduling program. KOrganizer supports information interchange with other calendar applications through the industry standard vCalendar file format. KOrganizer aims to be a complete program for organizing your appointments, contacts, projects, etc. It is in the same spirit as similar programs like the now ubiquitous Microsoft Outlook, Starfish Internet Sidekick, Time & Chaos, etc. (all for the Microsoft Windows platform, of course.) Best of all, It reads and writes the vCalendar file format NATIVELY (please see for more information), which is now an industry-wide personal data interchange format. Because of this, you should be able to move from other modern PIMs to KOrganizer with relative ease. Current users of the popular program ical should definitely take a look at KOrganizer and compare features.This package is part of the official KDE pim module.
kpager Desktop pager for KDE
kpat KPatience is a collection of 14 card games. All the games are single player games.
kpersonalizer KDE Personalizer is a wizard that launches when KDE is started by a user for the first time, giving them basic control over their KDE desktop.
kpilot KPilot is an application that synchronizes your Palm Pilot or similar device (like the Handspring Visor) with your KDE desktop, much like the Palm HotSync software does for Windows. KPilot can back-up and restore your Palm Pilot and synchronize the built-in applications with their KDE counterparts.
krdc krdc is an KDE graphical client for the rfb protocol, used by VNC, and if rdesktop is installed, krdc can connect to Windows Terminal Servers using RDP.
krecord 1.37-1 This is a sound recorder for KDE. It can just record and playback wav-files, that's all.

krfb Desktop Sharing for KDE. Desktop Sharing (krfb) is a server application that allows you to share your current session with a user on another machine, who can use a VNC client like krdc to view or even control the desktop.
ksnapshot KSnapshot is a simple applet for taking screenshots. It is capable of capturing images of either the whole desktop or just a single window. The images can then be saved in a variety of formats. This package is part of KDE, as a component of the KDE graphics module.
ksplash Includes the KDE Splash screen, which is seen when a KDE session is launched.
kstars KStars is a graphical desktop planetarium for KDE. It depicts an accurate simulation of the night sky, including stars, constellations, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, all planets, the Sun, the Moon, comets and asteroids. You can see the sky as it appears from any location on Earth, on any date.
kstars-data Contains architecture-independent data files for KStars, the graphical desktop planetarium for KDE. This includes star catalogues and astronomical images.
ksysguard KDE System Guard allows you to monitor various statistics about your computer.

ktimer This is a timer application for KDE. It allows you to execute commands after a certain amount of time. It supports looping commands as well as delayed command execution.
ktip ktip provides many useful tips on using KDE when you log in.
ktuberling KTuberling is a game intended for small children. Of course, it may be suitable for adults who have remained young at heart. It is a potato editor. That means that you can drag and drop eyes, mouths, moustache, and other parts of face and goodies onto a potato-like guy. Similarly, you have a penguin on which you can drop other stuff.
kview KView is a simple image viewer and converter application. It supports a number of plugins, which add an array of basic editing capabilities as well.
kwin The KDE window manager
kworldclock 4: Earth watcher for KDE. Displays where in the world it is light and dark depending on time, as well as offering the time in all of the major cities of the world. This can be run standalone, as an applet in the KDE panel or as a desktop background.
lapack3 3.0.20000531a-6 LAPACK version 3.0 is a comprehensive FORTRAN library that does linear algebra operations including matrix inversions, least squared solutions to linear sets of equations, eigenvector analysis, singular value decomposition, etc. It is a very comprehensive and reputable package that has found extensive use in the scientific community.
laptop-detect 0.12.1 Laptop mode attempts to determine whether it is being run on a laptop or a desktop and appraises its caller of this.
less 394-4 Less is a program similar to more(1), but which allows backward movement in the file as well as forward movement. Also, less does not have to read the entire input file before starting, so with large input files it starts up faster than text editors like vi(1). Less uses termcap (or terminfo on some systems), so it can run on a variety of terminals. There is even limited support for hardcopy terminals.
libacl1 2.2.41-1 Contains the dynamic library containing the POSIX 1003.1e draft standard 17 functions for manipulating access control lists.
libao2 0.8.6-4 Libao is a cross platform audio output library. It supports ESD, OSS, Solaris, IRIX, and several others.
libaps 1.1.153-1 The APS library provides print services to applications and printer configuration/management tools, hiding the details of the underlying low-level printing system.
libart-2.0-2 2.3.17-1 A library of functions for 2D graphics supporting a superset of the PostScript imaging model, designed to be integrated with graphics, artwork, and illustration programs. It is written in optimized C, and is fully compatible with C++. With a small footprint of 10,000 lines of code, it is especially suitable for embedded applications.
libarts1 Contains the aRts sound system, its libraries and binaries, including the aRts daemon, artsd. This package is part of KDE, and a component of the KDE aRts module.
libarts1-xine Contains aRts' xine plugin, allowing the use of the xine multimedia engine though aRts. This package is part of KDE, as a component of the KDE multimedia module.
libartsc0 Contains the C bindings for the aRts sound daemon. This package is part of KDE, and a component of the KDE aRts module.
libasound2 1.0.13-2 Contains the ALSA library and its standard plugins.
libaspell15 0.60.4-4 These are the runtime parts of the Aspell and pspell spell-checking toolkits, needed by applications that use the toolkits at runtime.
libasyncns0 0.1-1 libasyncns is a C library for Linux/Unix for executing name service queries asynchronously. It is an asynchronous wrapper around getaddrinfo(3) and getnameinfo(3) from the libc.
libatk1.0-0 1.12.4-3 ATK is a toolkit providing accessibility interfaces for applications or other toolkits. By implementing these interfaces, those other toolkits or applications can be used with tools such as screen readers, magnifiers, and other alternative input devices.
libatm1 2.4.1-17 Shared libraries needed by ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) related programs
libattr1 2.4.32-1 Runtime environment required by programs that make use of extended attributes.
libaudio2 1.8-4 The Network Audio System (NAS). (shared libraries)
libaudiofile0 0.2.6-6 The audiofile library allows the processing of audio data to and from audio files of many common formats (currently AIFF, AIFF-C, WAVE, NeXT/Sun, BICS, and raw data).
libavahi-client3 0.6.16-3etch1 Avahi is a fully LGPL framework for Multicast DNS Service Discovery. This package contains the library for Avahi's C API which allows you to integrate mDNS/DNS-SD functionality into your application.
libavahi-common-data 0.6.16-3etch1 Contains common data files for avahi.
libavahi-common3 0.6.16-3etch1 Contains the Avahi common library, which is a set of common functions used by many of Avahis components and client applications.
libavahi-glib1 0.6.16-3etch1 This library contains the the interface to integrate the Avahi libraries into a GLIB main loop application, including GTK applications.
libblkid1 1.39+1.40-
The blkid library which allows system programs like fsck and mount to quickly and easily find block devices by filesystem UUID and LABEL. This allows system administrators to avoid specifiying filesystems by hard-coded device names, but via a logical naming system instead.
libbluetooth2 3.7-1 Library to use the BlueZ Linux Bluetooth stack
libbonobo2-0 2.14.0-3 Bonobo is a set of language and system independent CORBA interfaces for creating reusable components, controls and creating compound documents. This package contains the shared libraries.

libbonoboui2-0 2.14.0-5 This package contains the Bonobo UI library. This package is a part of GNOME 2

libbz2-1.0 1.0.3-6 High-quality block-sorting file compressor library - runtime
libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13 Contains the standard libraries that are used by nearly all programs on the system. This package includes shared versions of the standard C library and the standard math library, as well as many others.
libcaca0 0.99.beta11.debian-2 libcaca is the Colour AsCii Art library. It provides high level functions for colour text drawing, simple primitives for line, polygon and ellipse drawing, as well as powerful image to text conversion routines.
libcairo2 1.2.4-4 The Cairo 2D vector graphics library.Cairo is a multi-platform library providing anti-aliased vector-based rendering for multiple target backends. Paths consist of line segments and cubic splines and can be rendered at any width with various join and cap styles. All colors may be specified with optional translucence (opacity/alpha) and combined using the extended Porter/Duff compositing algebra as found in the X Render Extension.
libcap1 1.10-14 This library implements the user-space interfaces to the POSIX 1003.1e capabilities available in Linux kernels. These capabilities are a partitioning of the all powerful root privilege into a set of distinct privileges.

libcomerr is an attempt to present a common error-handling mechanism to manipulate the most common form of error code in a fashion that does not have the problems identified with mechanisms commonly in use.
libconfhelper-perl 0.12.5 Library for editing configuration files. It provides functions to deal with configuration files in chunks, allowing nice co-existence with users and other programs on the system. It was written specifically for use with DebConf scripts.
libconfig-inifiles-perl 2.39-2 Config::IniFiles provides a way to have readable configuration files outside your Perl script. Configurations can be imported (inherited, stacked,...), sections can be grouped, and settings can be accessed from a tied hash.
libconsole 0.2.3dbs-65 Includes the libconsole and libcfont libraries, which are intended to provide a high-level programming interface to the Linux console, and console-font files.

libdb4.3 4.3.29-8 The runtime package for programs that use the v4.2 Berkeley database library.

libdbus-1-3 1.0.2-1 D-Bus is a message bus, used for sending messages between applications. Conceptually, it fits somewhere in between raw sockets and CORBA in terms of complexity.
libdbus-glib-1-2 0.71-3 Provides the GLib-based shared library for applications using the GLib interface to D-Bus.
libdevmapper1.02 1.02.08-1 The Linux Kernel Device Mapper userspace library. The Linux Kernel Device Mapper is the LVM (Linux Logical Volume Management) Team's implementation of a minimalistic kernel-space driver that handles volume management, while keeping knowledge of the underlying device layout in user-space. This makes it useful for not only LVM, but EVMS, software raid, and other drivers that create "virtual" block devices.
libdirectfb-0.9-25 DirectFB is a graphics library which was designed with embedded systems in mind. It offers maximum hardware accelerated performance at a minimum of resource usage and overhead.
libdmx1 1.0.2-2 libdmx is an interface to the DMX extension for X.Org, which allows a single server to be set up as a proxy spanning multiple servers -- not unlike Xinerama across discrete physical machines. It can be reconfigured on the fly to change the layout, and it is presented as a single logical display to clients.
libdrm2 2.3.0-5asus1 This library implements the userspace interface to the kernel DRM services. DRM stands for "Direct Rendering Manager", which is the kernelspace portion of the "Direct Rendering Infrastructure" (DRI). The DRI is currently used on Linux to provide hardware-accelerated OpenGL drivers.
libdvdread3 0.9.7-2 libdvdread provides the functionality that is required to access many DVDs. It parses IFO files, reads NAV-blocks, and performs CSS authentication and descrambling.
libedit2 2.9.cvs.20050518-2.2 The editline library provides generic line editing and history functions.

libevent1 1.1a-1 The libevent API provides a mechanism to execute a callback function when a specific event occurs on a file descriptor or after a timeout has been reached.
libexif12 0.6.13-5 Most digital cameras produce EXIF files, which are JPEG files with extra tags that contain information about the image. The EXIF library allows you to parse an EXIF file and read the data from those tags.
libexiv2-0.10 0.10-1.4 EXIF/IPTC metadata manipulation library
libexpat1 1.95.8-3.4 Contains the runtime, shared library of expat, the C library for parsing XML.
libfam0 2.7.0-12 Provides a shared library to allow programs to connect to the FAM daemon and ask for files to be monitored.
libflac7 1.1.2-6 Free Lossless Audio Codec - runtime C library
libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2asus2 Contains the runtime library needed to launch applications using fontconfig.
libfontenc1 1.0.2-2 libfontenc is a library which helps font libraries portably determine and deal with different encodings of fonts.
libfreetype6 2.2.1-5 FreeType 2 font engine, shared library files.The FreeType project is a team of volunteers who develop free, portable and high-quality software solutions for digital typography. They specifically target embedded systems and focus on bringing small, efficient and ubiquitous products.
libfribidi0 0.10.7-4 Free Implementation of the Unicode BiDi algorithm
libfs6 1.0.0-4 libFS, the Font Services library, provides various functions useful to X11 font servers, and clients connecting to font servers. It is not used outside of these implementations.
libfuse2 2.5.3-4.4 Simple interface for userspace programs to export a virtual filesystem to the linux kernel.
libg2c0 3.4.6-5 Library needed for GNU Fortran 77 applications linked against the shared library.
libgail-common 1.8.11-4 GNOME Accessibility Implementation Library -- common modules. Gail implements ATK interfaces for GTK+ widgets which are dynamically loadable at runtime by a GTK+ application. Once loaded, those parts of an application that use standard GTK+ widgets will have a basic level of accessibility, without the need to modify the application at all. This package contains core shared libraries.
libgail17 1.8.11-4 Contains the shared library.
libgcc1 4.1.1-21 Shared version of the support library, a library of internal subroutines that gcc uses to overcome shortcomings of particular machines, or special needs for some languages.
libgcj-bc 4.1.1-21 A fake library that is used at link time only. It ensures that binaries built with the BC-ABI link against a constant SONAME. This way, BC-ABI binaries continue to work if the SONAME underlying changes.

libgconf2-4 2.16.1-1 GNOME configuration database system (shared libraries)
libgcrypt11 1.2.3-2 libgcrypt contains cryptographic functions. Many important free ciphers, hash algorithms and public key signing algorithms have been implemented: arcfour, blowfish, cast5, DSA, des, 3DES, elgamal, MD5, rijndael, RMD160, RSA, SHA1, twofish, tiger.
libgda2-3 1.2.3-5 GNOME Data Access is an attempt to provide uniform access to different kinds of data sources (databases, information servers, mail spools, etc).
libgda2-common 1.2.3-5 This package contains common files for libgda2-3.
libgdbm3 1.8.3-3 GNU dbm database routines (runtime version)
libgdl-1-0 0.6.1-1 Provides a support library for development tools from the GNOME environment. Including symbol browser, dock and editor components.
libgdl-1-common 0.6.1-1 GNOME DevTool libraries - common files. Provides a support library for development tools from the GNOME environment. Including symbol browser, dock and editor components.
