I have compiled a complete list of all the software packages that are installed on the Eee PC. Due to the large number of packages, this list has been divided into 6 manageable parts.

apt Debian's next generation front-end for the dpkg package manager. It provides the apt-get utility and APT dselect method that provides a simpler, safer way to install and upgrade packages. APT features complete installation ordering, multiple source capability and several other unique features
apt-utils This package contains some APT utility programs such as apt-ftparchive, apt-sortpkgs and apt-extracttemplates.
aptitude 0.4.4-4 aptitude is a terminal-based apt frontend with a number of useful features, including: a mutt-like syntax for matching packages in a flexible manner, dselect-like persistence of user actions, the ability to retrieve and display the Debian changelog of most packages, and a command-line mode similar to that of apt-get.

autofs 4.1.4-13xandros4 Autofs controls the operation of the automount daemons. The automount daemons automatically mount filesystems when they are used and unmount them after a period of inactivity. This is done based on a set of pre-configured maps.
base-files 4 This package contains the basic filesystem hierarchy of a Debian system, and several important miscellaneous files, such as /etc/debian_version, /etc/host.conf, /etc/issue, /etc/motd, /etc/profile, /etc/nsswitch.conf, and others, and the text of several common licenses in use on Debian systems.
base-passwd 3.5.11 These are the canonical master copies of the user database files (/etc/passwd and /etc/group), containing the Debian-allocated user and group IDs. The update-passwd tool is provided to keep the system databases synchronized with these master files.
bash 3.1dfsg-8 Bash is an sh-compatible command language interpreter that executes commands read from the standard input or from a file. Bash also incorporates useful features from the Korn and C shells (ksh and csh).
bluez-utils 3.7-1 Bluetooth tools and daemons. BlueZ is the official Linux Bluetooth protocol stack.
bsdmainutils 6.1.6 Collection of more utilities from FreeBSD. Included are: banner, ncal, cal, calendar, col, colcrt, colrm, column, from, hexdump, look, lorder, ul, write.

bsh 2.0b4-4 BeanShell is a small, free, embeddable, Java source interpreter with object scripting language features, written in Java. BeanShell executes standard Java statements and expressions, in addition to obvious scripting commands and syntax. BeanShell supports scripted objects as simple method closures like those in Perl and JavaScript(tm).
bzip2 1.0.3-6 bzip2 is a freely available, patent free, high-quality data compressor. It typically compresses files to within 10% to 15% of the best available techniques, whilst being around twice as fast at compression and six times faster at decompression.

changepassword 1.0.2-5 This application changes the root password. It runs once on first boot.
clamav 0.91.2-4 Clam AntiVirus is an anti-virus toolkit for Unix. The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon in the clamav-daemon package, a commandline scanner in the clamav package, and a tool for automatic updating via the Internet in the clamav-freshclam package. The programs are based on libclamav2, which you can use in your own software.

This package contains the command line interface. It has:
* built-in support for various archive formats, including Zip, RAR, Tar, Gzip, Bzip2, OLE2, Cabinet, CHM, BinHex, SIS and others
* built-in support for almost all mail file formats
* built-in support for ELF executables and Portable Executable files compressed with UPX, FSG, Petite, NsPack, wwpack32, MEW, Upack and obfuscated with SUE, Y0da Cryptor and others
* built-in support for popular document formats including MS Office and MacOffice files, HTML, RTF and PDF
clamav-base 0.91.2-4 Mainly manages the clamav UNIX account. It's not really useful without the clamav package. It also handles configuration for both the clamav-daemon and the clamav-milter packages.

cpio 2.6-17 GNU cpio is a tool for creating and extracting archives, or copying files from one place to another. It handles a number of cpio formats as well as reading and writing tar files.

crack-attack 1.1.14-6 Crack Attack is an OpenGL puzzle game similar to the Super Nintendo game "Tetris Attack". Slowly, your stack of colored blocks grows from the bottom, and you've got to make sure it never reaches the top. If it does, you lose. To eliminate blocks from the stack, line up at least three of one color, horizontally or vertically. Once you do, those blocks disappear, and put off slightly your inevitable demise.
cron 3.0pl1-100 cron is a background process (`daemon') that runs programs at regular intervals (for example, every minute, day, week or month); which processes are run and at what times are specified in the `crontab'.
cryptsetup 1.0.4+svn26-1 Since kernel 2.6.4, encrypted filesystem support is provided by the device mapper target dm-crypt. This utility provides a command-line interface for configuring this facility. It has integrated support for LUKS.
cupsys 1.2.7-4 The Common UNIX Printing System (or CUPS(tm)) is a printing system and general replacement for lpd and the like. It supports the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP), and has its own filtering driver model for handling various document types.
cupsys-bsd 1.2.7-4 This package provides the BSD commands for interacting with CUPS. It is provided separately to allow CUPS to coexist with other printing systems (to a small degree).
cupsys-client 1.2.7-4 This package provides the System V style print client programs.
cupsys-common 1.2.7-4 This package provides common files for CUPS server and client packages.
dbus 1.0.2-1 D-Bus is a message bus, used for sending messages between applications. Conceptually, it fits somewhere in between raw sockets and CORBA in terms of complexity.
debconf 1.5.11 Debconf is a configuration management system for debian packages. Packages use Debconf to ask questions when they are installed.
debconf-i18n 1.5.11 Provides full internationalization for debconf, including translations into all available languages, support for using translated debconf templates, and support for proper display of multibyte character sets.
debian-archive-keyring 2007.02.19 The Debian project digitally signs its Release files. This package contains the archive keys used for that.
debianutils 2.17 Provides a number of small utilities which are used primarily by the installation scripts of Debian packages, although you may use them directly. The specific utilities included are: installkernel mkboot run-parts savelog sensible-browser sensible-editor sensible-pager tempfile which.
defoma 0.11.10-0.1 Defoma, which stands for DEbian FOnt MAnager, provides a framework for automatic font configuration. An application whose configuration of fonts usually requires manual intervention can automate the process through Defoma, by installing a Defoma-configuration script. The script gets called whenever a font is installed and removed, so that the script may update the application configuration.
desktop-file-utils 0.11-1 Some utilities to make dealing with .desktop files easier:
* update-desktop-database -- update the desktop-MIME mapping
  * desktop-file-validate -- validate a desktop file

disktype 9-1 The purpose of disktype is to detect the content format of a disk or disk image. It knows about common file systems, partition tables, and boot codes.
diskutil 1.0.0-0xandros17 A custom utility that displays usage information about the rootfs and the Asus Extra Drive in real time. There is also a facility to format the Asus Extra Drive and mount it.

dmidecode 2.8-4 The Desktop Management Interface provides a standardized description of a computer's hardware, including characteristics such as BIOS serial number and hardware connectors. dmidecode provides a dump of the DMI data available from the BIOS. It is used as a back-end tool by other hardware detection programs.
dmsetup 1.02.08-1 The Linux Kernel Device Mapper is the LVM (Linux Logical Volume Management) Team's implementation of a minimalistic kernel-space driver that handles volume management, while keeping knowledge of the underlying device layout in user-space. This makes it useful for not only LVM, but EVMS, software raid, and other drivers that create "virtual" block devices.
docbook-xml 4.4-5 DocBook is an XML document type definition (DTD). Contains the XML DTD for DocBook, which describes the formal structure for documents following this format.
dosfstools 2.11-2.1+b1 Utilities to create and check MS-DOS FAT filesystems. Inside of this package there are two utilities (mkdosfs alias mkfs.dos, and dosfsck alias fsck.msdos) to create and to check MS-DOS FAT filesystems on either hard disks or floppies under Linux. This version uses the enhanced boot sector/superblock format of DOS 3.3+ as well as provides a default dummy boot sector code.
dpkg 1.13.25 Contains the low-level commands for handling the installation and removal of packages on your system.

dvd+rw-tools 7.0-4 dvd+rw-tools makes it possible to burn DVD images created by dvdauthor or mkisofs to DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW disks, replacing cdrecord-proDVD in many cases.
dvdbackup 0.1.1-10 dvdbackup will extract all (or optionally only selected) titles as found on the dvd. It will structure the extracted files in a format suitable for burning at a later time with mkisofs and dvdrecord. Has the advantage of being very easy to use, small, and fast.

And by adding Tk, you can also wrap interactive applications in X11 GUIs. An interpreted language provides branching and high-level control structures to direct the dialogue. In addition, the user can take control and interact directly when desired, afterward returning control to the script.

foomatic-db-engine 3.0-20070724-1xandros1 Foomatic is a printing system designed to make it easier to set up common printers for use with Debian (and other operating systems). contains the architecture-dependent programs needed to set up and maintain the foomatic system. You will also need one or more database packages. The foomatic-db package includes drivers for most common printers using Ghostscript as the print processor, as well as some common glue code used in other filter systems.

gconf2 2.16.1-1 GConf is a configuration database system for storing application preferences. It supports default or mandatory settings set by the administrator, and changes to the database are instantly applied to all running applications. It is written for the GNOME desktop but doesn't require it.

gdb 6.4.90.dfsg-1 GDB is a source-level debugger, capable of breaking programs at any specific line, displaying variable values, and determining where errors occurred. Currently, it works for C, C++, Fortran, Modula 2 and Java programs. A must-have for any serious
genisoimage 1.1.2-1 genisoimage is a pre-mastering program for creating ISO-9660 CD-ROM filesystem images, which can then be written to CD or DVD media using the wodim program. genisoimage includes support for making bootable "El Torito" CDs, as well as CDs with support for the Macintosh HFS filesystem.
The package also includes extra tools useful for working with ISO images:
  * mkzftree - create ISO-9660 image with compressed contents
  * dirsplit - easily separate large directory contents into disks of predefined size
  * geteltorito - extract an El Torito boot image from a CD image
gij 4.1.1-15 A dependency package providing the default GNU Java bytecode interpreter.
gij-4.1 4.1.1-20 GIJ is not limited to interpreting bytecode. It includes a class loader which can dynamically load shared objects, so it is possible to give it the name of a class which has been compiled and put into a shared library on the class path.
gmailfs 0.7.2-2 GmailFS provides a mountable Linux filesystem which uses your Gmail account as its storage medium. GmailFS is a Python application and uses the FUSE userland filesystem infrastructure to help provide the filesystem, and libgmail to communicate with Gmail.
gnome-keyring 0.6.0-3 gnome-keyring is a daemon in the session, similar to ssh-agent, and other applications can use it to store passwords and other sensitive information.
gnome-media-common 2.14.2-4 Contains the common files and internationalization for the GNOME media utilities.
gnome-mime-data 2.4.3-1 Contains the base MIME and Application database for GNOME. It is meant to be accessed through the MIME functions in GnomeVFS.
gnome-sudoku 0.5.0-1 A game for the popular Japanese sudoku logic puzzle
gnupg 1.4.6-2 GnuPG is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440.
gpgv 1.4.6-2 gpgv is a stripped-down version of gnupg which is only able to check signatures. It is smaller than the full-blown gnupg and uses a different (and simpler) way to check that the public keys used to make the signature are trustworthy.
grep 2.5.1.ds2-6 'grep' is a utility to search for text in files; it can be used from the command line or in scripts. Even if you don't want to use it, other packages on your system probably will.
groff-base GNU troff text-formatting system (base system components). Contains the traditional UN*X text formatting tools troff, nroff, tbl, eqn, and pic. These utilities, together with the man-db package, are essential for displaying the on-line manual pages.
grub 0.97-27xandros6 GRUB is a GPLed bootloader intended to unify bootloading across x86 operating systems. In addition to loading the Linux kernel, it implements the Multiboot standard, which allows for flexible loading of multiple boot images (needed for modular kernels such as the GNU Hurd).
gs-common 0.3.11 Common files for different Ghostscript releases
gs-esp 8.15.3.dfsg.1-1 The Ghostscript PostScript interpreter - ESP version Ghostscript is used for PostScript preview and printing. Usually as a back-end to a program such as ghostview, it can display postscript documents in an X11 environment.

gsynaptics 0.9.7-3asus3 GSynaptics is a GUI configuration tool for the Synaptics touchpad driver of the X server. This allows for modifications of the driver parameters on the fly.
gtk2-engines 2.8.2-1 This package contains the "engines" that hide behind the themes for GTK+ and GNOME applications. They redefine the way GTK+ widgets are drawn.
gtk2-engines-clearlooks 2.8.2-1 Clearlooks GTK+ 2.x engine and theme (dummy package)
guile-1.6-libs 1.6.8-6 Main Guile libraries. Guile is a Scheme implementation designed for real world programming, providing a rich Unix interface, a module system, an interpreter, and many extension languages. Guile can be used as a standard #! style interpreter, via #!/usr/bin/guile, or as an extension language for other applications via libguile.
gwenview 1.4.2-1xandros7 Gwenview is an image viewer for the K Desktop Environment. It features a folder tree window and a file list window to provide easy navigation of your file hierarchy. Gwenview uses docked windows, so you can alter its layout any way you wish. You can also browse your images in full-screen mode, or embedded within Konqueror using the Gwenview Image Browser View and Kpart.
gwenview-i18n 1.4.2-1xandros5 Provides internationalization (i18n) files (translations) for Gwenview, an image viewer for the K Desktop Environment.
gzip 1.3.5-15 This is the standard GNU file compression utility, which is also the default compression tool for Debian. It typically operates on files with names ending in '.gz'.
hicolor-icon-theme 0.8-4 The default fallback theme used by implementations of the Icon Theme specification.
hostname 2.93 The hostname command can be used to either set or display the current host or domain name of the system. This name is used by many of the networking programs to identify the machine. The domain name is also used by NIS/YP.
hotplug 0.0.20040329.x.3-1 Contains the scripts necessary for hotplug Linux support, and lets you plug in new devices and use them immediately. It includes support for PCI, Cardbus (PCMCIA), USB and Firewire devices and can automatically configure network interfaces.

This system is not meant to replace the need for powerful internet-wide search systems like Lycos, Google, or Yahoo!. Instead it is meant to cover the search needs of a single company, campus, or even a particular subsection of a website.

ifmetric 0.3-2 ifmetric is a Linux tool for setting the metrics of all IPv4 routes attached to a given network interface at once. This may be used to change the priority of routing IPv4 traffic over the interface. Lower metrics correlate with higher priorities.
ifplugd 0.28-2.3 ifplugd is a daemon which will automatically configure your ethernet device when a cable is plugged in and automatically unconfigure it if the cable is pulled. This is useful on laptops with onboard network adapters, since it will only configure the interface when a cable is really connected.
