About Edubuntu

Edubuntu is a Linux distribution targeted for schools and other educational environments. It is a complete operating system, built on the popular Ubuntu distribution, and released in parallel with that distribution.  It includes an office suite, web browser, many educational applications, and more. Edubuntu is designed for a teacher or network administrator to be able to setup a complete classroom quickly and easily.

Included with Edubuntu is the Linux Terminal Server Project, a large number of educational applications including GCompris, KDE Edutainment Suite, and Schooltool Calendar.

It is available as a desktop Live CD, allowing you to run the operating system without making any modifications to your hard disk, although there is also an option to install it. Furthermore, via the Classroom Server CD, the user can install Edubuntu permanently either as a Server or as a Workstation.

Besides Edubuntu, there are 2 other official variants of Ubuntu: Kubuntu and Xubuntu.
