Sabayon Linux is a Gentoo
based live DVD which can also be installed to a hard disk
(using
the Anaconda installer). Its goal is to be 100% compatible
with Gentoo.
Sabayon gets it’s name from an Italian dessert, “Sabayon is an Italian
dessert made with
egg yolks, sugar, a sweet liqueur
(usually Marsala wine), and sometimes cream or whole eggs. It is a very
light custard, which has been whipped to incorporate a large amount of
air.”
Highlights of the distribution include support for AIGLX (allowing
accelerated indirect GLX rendering capabilities to X.org and DRI
drivers), XGL (X server architecture designed to take of modern
graphics cards via their OpenGL drivers), Compiz
(an OpenGL accelerated desktop), and GeeXbox (to turn your PC into a
full media center).
There is also a miniEdition available for both 32 and 64 bit x86
machines, which is the CD release of the latest Sabayon Linux
DVD. This version has been created by using an automatic
script which removes duplicated, server-oriented, or redundant packages.
