the goal of
producing "an
elegant, up to date and comfortable GNU/Linux desktop”. Linux
Mint is
based on Ubuntu
with some tweaks and additions.
It is touted as being a desktop distro in light of the following

which doesn't contain:
proprietary software;

support for restricted formats.
