Low-Spec Hardware? Try these Desktop Environments
I have selected my pick of desktop environments that are excellent candidates for older hardware. They typically run well on low-spec machines, even a system with a Pentium II 266MHz CPU, a processor that is now 16 years old. All of the desktops are released under freely distributable licenses. If your Linux box feels sluggish in general use, try one of the desktops featured below. It may just save you from discarding a perfectly good machine.

It also supports HTTP cookies for managing state across requests.
  • Mon.cgi
    Mon.cgi is a CGI interface for viewing the status of a Mon service. The interface can be customized using CSS and can be configured to each environment's requirements.

    ngetcgi is an addon program for nget, running under CGI on a webserver. It makes it easier to select and download files.
  • Pascal Server Pages
    Pascal Server Pages and utilities allow you to write binary CGI programs in easy and comfortable way for the major Pascal/Object Pascal compilers.
  • PHP-FPM
    PHP-FPM (FastCGI Process Manager) is an alternative PHP FastCGI implementation with some additional features useful for sites of any size, especially busier sites.
  • Shark CGI Function
    Shark CGI Function is a one line function for (more easily) programming CGI:s in C. It extracts variables and contents from GET, POST & multipart/form-data forms, as well as cookies, and makes them accessible as environment variables.

    Small-FCGI is a set of SmallEiffel bindings for the Fast CGI web architecture.
