One of the first things to do with a new release of Ubuntu is to check for updates. Typically, I won't upgrade to the latest release immediately, so there's always quite a few updates since the release. There's a handy Software Updater tool which makes the updating process painless.

  • k
    The "k" script is a friendly wrapper for kfmclient. It lets you quickly open a file, directory or URL in kfm from the the command shell. When run without arguments it opens a kfm window in the current directory.

    A Windows Commander (or Norton Commander) clone for the K Desktop Environment.
  • KDE Commander
    A file browser that allows browsing, copying, and deleting files.
  • KFile-Cert
    KFile-Cert is a kfile-plugin for KDE. It offers detailed information on X509 certificate files, which often have extensions .cer, .crt or .pem. The information is displayed in the file properties dialog box, Konqueror pop-up file tips, and in Konqueror info list view. The information includes certificate subject, issuer, validity term and status.
  • KNC
    KNC is a file manager for KDE. You have two windows showing your files and you can easily copy or move files between them.

    kruiser is a Win95-like file system explorer written by MichaŽl Goffioul for KDE. Currently supported are browsing, file operations, (un)mounting external devices, FTP support (browsing, downloading and uploading), SMB support, MDI support and KDE mime types.
  • Krusader
    Krusader is an advanced twin panel (commander style) file manager for KDE 3, similar to Midnight or Total Commander (formerly Windows Commander), with many extras. It provides all the file-management features you could possibly want. Plus: extensive archive handling, mounted filesystem support, FTP, advanced search module, viewer/editor, directory synchronisation, file content comparisons, powerful batch renaming and much much more. It supports the following archive formats: tar, zip, bzip2, gzip, rar, ace, arj and rpm and can handle other KIOSlaves such as smb or fish.
  • Portos Commander
    Portos Commander (Pcmm) is a Linux file manager for KDE 3.x. It is patterned after old-school managers like Midnight Commander and Norton Commander. It features basically all your file-management needs, file searcher, internal viewer, URL database, ftp, and more,
  • Wmfinder
    Wmfinder is an easy to use file manager. No more "dot file editing" hassles to configure file types, everything is done from a configuration menu. Wmfinder has also a nice interface, that fits in well with WindowMaker.
  • zfm
    A filemanager formerly packed in the ZDesktop project. It's now an entirely standalone application and uses the QT. It uses plugins to access data (for the local filesystem, FTP servers, etc.), plugins to display files and directories (list mode, icon mode, 3D mode, etc.), and various plugins for purposes like copying files, printing files and creating diretories.
