IBM bosses have sent a warning to Linux Desktop Developers; they have told the open source community to make Linux like a desktop OS for consumers and businesses. What they mean by this is “Not to Copy Windows.”

Market Analysis System
The Market Analysis System (MAS) is an open-source software application that provides tools for analysis of financial markets using technical analysis. Some of the features of MAS are: Includes basic technical analysis indicators, such as Simple Moving Average, Exponential Moving Average, Stochastic, MACD, RSI, On Balance Volume, and Momentum, more advanced indicators, such as Standard Deviation, Slope of EMA of Volume, Slope of MACD Signal Line, Bollinger Bands, and Parabolic SAR. Users can also create new technical analysis indicators, including complex indicators based on existing indicators. MAS can be configured and run as a server that provides services for several clients at a time running on remote machines.

    filtergen is a packet filter generator. It compiles a fairly high-level description language into iptables rules (and will shortly support ipchains and Cisco IOS ACLs).
  • fireparse
    fireparse is a Perl script that is executed daily that e-mails a report of all packets that have been logged by the v2.2.x kernel's ipchains packet filtering subsystem. The report includes source and destination ports, direction, packet count, ipchains rule, and fully resolved host name.

    ipv6calc can be used by scripts to convert IPv6 addresses from one format to another.

    izBalancing is a bash script allow you to easly and fastly configure a complex Load Balancing Multi Homed Internet Gateway for inbound and outbound traffic.

    N:aRC (Nec's Amarok Remote Control) is a shell script, which allows the (remote) controlling of amarok per ssh. It is possible to run it with keyboard shortcuts.

    nettop is a program which looks like top, but is for network packets. It requires libpcap and slang.

    Netcom is a simple script for sending and receiving data over TCP/UDP connections. It can be useful for testing firewall configurations, routing tables, and similar things.
  • oinkmaster
    oinkmaster is a simple Perl script released under the BSD license to help you update/manage your Snort 2.0+ rules.
  • Packet Excalibur
    Packet Excalibur is a multi-platform graphical and scriptable network packet engine with extensible text based protocol descriptions.
  • peep
    peep is a network-file-stdio connectivity utility. peep will route data among TCP/UDP connections, files and standard I/O file descriptors, in any way you specify.
  • perlipq
    perlipq is a Perl extension to Linux iptables userspace queueing via libipq.
  • PFconf
    PFconf is a very simple script collection to ease working with "naked" packet filters, especially Linux IPTABLES netfilter facility.
  • pmping
    This script is intended to provide a way to ping multiple hosts, and check for their availability and responsiveness. Besides the regular "it's alive" check, we can see the amount of lost packets and average response in a given time.
  • PyKeylogger
    PyKeylogger is a cross-platform keylogger. It is primarily designed for backup purposes, but can be used as a stealth keylogger too. It is a set of [relatively] short Python scripts that you can easily examine.
  • SqStat
    SqStat is a script which allows to look through active squid users connections. It use cachemgr protocol to get information from squid proxy server.
  • sshdautoban
    sshdautoban is a script intended to automatically ban, in real time, attackers that are trying to connect on your sshd service without authorization. It blocks connections from an IP address when it issues too many login errors.
  • Syslog-Fifo
    Syslog-Fifo is a Perl script which allows parsing of syslog traffic.
  • Traffic Control Super Script
    Tcss implements traffic shaping using iproute2 and iptables. It supports multiple network interfaces, layer7 shaping (l7-filter module is required), grouping of networks / hosts, bandwidth bursting, sharing bandwidth between networks within groups, network exclusions, and multiport rules, and can shape by TCP/UDP port, IP, network block, and layer7 (payload). It also supports a flat file or MySQL backend.
  • update-zoneinfo
    update-zoneinfo is a utility for synchronizing a host's time zone information according to definitions stored on a central server. Linux and Solaris are currently supported. It can be periodically run from crontab to deal with changes in daylight saving times.
  • url-sniff
    url-sniff provides the ability to sniff HTML 1.1 GET request that goes throught our server.
  • urlchange
    urlchange is a small script written in the Python programming language, that allows you to check if a list of URLs has changed. Although the name suggests generic URL change-detection, currently only the HTTP protocol is supported.
  • VPNS
    VPNS is a set of scripts to easily set up multiple VPNs using the vpnd daemon.
  • wakeonlan
    wakeonlan is a Perl script that sends 'magic packets' to wake-on-LAN enabled ethernet adapters and motherboards, in order to switch on remote computers.
  • ZoneMaker
    Zonemaker is a small python script to simplify the creation of BIND9 zonefiles. It is configured using files similar to Windows' .ini files and generates neatly formatted zonefiles.
