Japanese manufacturer Shimafuji is readying a two-inch cubed computer that runs Red Hat Linux on 1GB of flash. The Space Cube is equipped with a MIPS-based NEC VR5701 processor, 64MB RAM, and numerous I/O connections, including a Firewire-like "SpaceWire" port designed for spaceflight.

  • arping
    arping broadcasts a who-has ARP packet on the network and prints answers.
  • echoping
    echoping is a small program to test (approximatively) performances of a remote host by sending it TCP "echo" (or other protocol) packets.
  • enin
    enin is for enumerating ipx nodes on a network. It works by sending an ipx ping packet to all nodes on a network.
  • GTK-Pinger
    GTK-Pinger is a cyclic multi ping utility for selected adresses using GTK/ncurses. You simply write adresses into a configuration file and after execution of pinger, you will see small nice window, which inform you about current status of selected hosts and their triptimes.
  • httping
    httping is like 'ping' but for http-requests. Give it an url, and it'll show you how long it takes to connect, send a request and retrieve the reply (only the headers).
  • Ping Tunnel
    Ping Tunnel allows you to reliably tunnel TCP connections to a remote host using ICMP echo request and reply packets, commonly known as ping requests and replies.
  • PingNode
    PingNode will ping a list of network devices at a specified interval. It will then create a record in a MySQL database for each ping indicating that the node was there or not there. It will also send an email if the node is found to be down.
  • pingx
    pingx is a utility that uses the XNoOp(3x) call to see how fast your connection to your X server.
  • poing
    poing is a text mode multi-host ping program that displays ongoing host statii as colorful leftward-scrolling strip charts.
  • RouterCli
    RouterCli is a Cisco-like shell for diskless or one-floppy Linux mini-distributions. The RouterCli includes interface configuration, routing manipulation, ping, telnet, trace, rip daemon, standard acls and other utilities.
  • SING
    Send ICMP Nasty Garbage: Security ping replacement with many features: spoofing, fragmentation,systems emulation, etc.
  • SmokePing
    SmokePing measures latency and packet loss in your network. SmokePing uses RRDtool to maintain a longterm datastore and to draw pretty graphs giving up to the minute information on the state of each network connection.
  • TkPing
    TkPing is an application written in Perl/Tk which helps you monitor hosts on a network. It is intended primarily for system administrators / network administrators who need to detect when crucial hosts and other network nodes go down.
