  • dvtext
    The dvtext program generates DV (Digital Video) movie clips of certain text effects. Currently, two text effects are supported: a fade-in/fade-out title effect, and a "scrolling text" effect suitable for closing credits. There is no support for anything fancy like placing text over your custom video -- text is always rendered onto a solid black background.
  • ExtSub
    ExtSub is a small utility for extracting and parsing subtitle data.
  • Gaupol
    Gaupol is a subtitle editor for text-based subtitles. Gaupol supports multiple subtitle file formats and provides means of text corrections and time manipulations. Gaupol's user interface is designed with attention to batch processing of multiple documents and convenient translating.
  • Gnome Subtitles
    Gnome Subtitles is a subtitle editor for the GNOME Desktop. It aims to provide a clean and functional interface to the user without giving away the needed features. It is written in C#, being closely integrated with Gnome# and targeted to the GNU/Linux Operating System.
  • GSubEdit
    GSubEdit, or GNOME Subtitle Editor, is a tool for editing and converting DivX ;-) subtitles. It currently features read/write of SubRip (.srt) and MicroDVD (.sub) subtitles. Framerate conversion and frame displacement (Increase/decrease all frames by a given offset) is also supported.
  • GTKsubtitler
    GTKsubtitler is a small program for editing and converting DivX subtitles. It supports: moving, mergeing & converting to iso-8859-1 and iso-8859-2.
  • ifoinfo
    ifoinfo is a small tool that using libdvdread extracts title information from a DVD. This includes information about audio-tracks, subtitles and chapters.
  • KSubeditor
    KSubeditor is a tool for editing DivX subtitles. It works with KDE3.
  • KSubtile
    KSubtile is an editor for the KDE environment to edit, make and save subtitles in the SRT subtitle format.
  • KSubtitleRipper
    KSubtitleRipper is a GUI for KDE to rip DVD subtitles. It uses subtitleripper to extract subtitles from .vob files and to create the .srt file, and gocr to convert subtitle images to text.
  • subconv
    Subconv converts divx subtitles from one format to another (currently only from srt/tmplayer/mdvd/sub2 to tmplayer/srt). It can also adjust subtitles delay and split subtitles.
  • SubPlayer
    SubPlayer is a subtitle player. It can be useful with streaming video.
  • Subtitle Editor
    Subtitle Editor is a GTK+2 tool to edit subtitles for GNU/Linux. It can be used for new subtitles or as a tool to transform, edit, correct and refine existing subtitle.
  • Voody Blue Subtitler
    Voody Blue Subtitler (aka VBS) is a simple programme that allows you to manually synchronize a text file with a video stream, thus creating a subtitles file.
