It was created for the independent media festival in Tübingen, Germany. dmx4MPlayer (x4m for short) is a GUI for mplayer. It features full control over each dmx-interface. Control panels can be constructed easily through keyboard shortcuts. A list-view of multiple DVDs can be realized by copying the DVD directories onto the hard disk. The playlist features start-position marks. Preview and presentation can be done at once.

    eMotion is a media player. It uses MPlayer to play the videos, as we are not up to making an entire video rendering program. eMotion is only the front-end which calls MPlayer. The icons, dialog boxes, buttons, menus, all of those things are eMotion.
  • Enhanced-Media-Center
    Enhanced-Media-Center is a modular entertaiment system to watch and play multimedia data (audio, video, text, TV, and similar).
  • Enjoympeg
    Enjoympeg is an MPEG-1 video player based on the source of plaympeg from the SMPEG library. It has a hideable control bar which allows you to play/pause, stop, seek and switch to fullscreen mode. This software is distributed under the GNU Public License (GPL).

    GDVD is a Front End GTK Wrapper for 'dvdplay'.
  • Gmerlin

  • GNOME Mplayer
    GNOME Mplayer is a simple GUI for Mplayer. It is based heavily on the mplayerplug-in source code and can basically be seen as a standalone version of that.
  • Goggles DVD Player
    Goggles DVD Player is a frontend for Ogle DVD player. Besides the usual features like having a play button etc, Goggles tries to provide features not often found in other dvd players. Since Ogle in itself is only a dvd player, it has some neat capabilities that "general" media players cannot provide.
  • GQoob
    GQoob: A slightly configurable media player. GQoob uses the XINE libraries to support a variety of media formats. GQoob is a dead project.
  • Gst-Player
    Gst-Player is a full-featured media player for GNOME 2 using the GStreamer multimedia framework. Features include support for a wide range of media formats (both video and audio), support for fullscreen playback, and audio output to a range of sound systems and sound servers.
  • Hades
    Hades is an easy-to-use GNOME video player which allows you to apply special effects in realtime.
  • IvySync
    IvySync provides synced playback of multiple videos on multiple screens. In the video art field, there are many artworks which require synchronized and parallel playback of audio/video materials. This software provides such functionality for IvyTV supported hardware decoders, with a time precision to the nanosecond.
  • Ixion media player
    Ixion is a media player written in C/C++ using wxWidgets and GStreamer. It is not a bleeding edge, full-featured, eye-candy, all-in-one application.
  • Kaboodle
    Kaboodle is a light, embedded media player, supporting both video and audio, for KDE. It uses the aRts framework for playing media files. This package is part of KDE, as a component of the KDE multimedia module.
  • Kenbushi
    (commercial) Kenbushi (previously called 'PC-Mac-Net FileShare') is a powerful media center with integrated file sharing, web server and data backup over LAN/Internet. Versions are available for Windows, MacOS X, MacOS Classic and Linux. A free lite edition is also available.
  • kmediagrab
    kmediagrab is a front end to some of mplayer/mencoder features. In detail it grabs audio/video from a DVD , a Tv video card and translate a video file from one format to another.
  • KMPlayer
    KMPlayer is a MPlayer frontend for KDE. It can play all the audio/video supported by MPlayer from local file or url, be embedded inside Konqueror and KHTML and play DVDs.
  • kxanim
    kxanim is an xanim wrapper to allow video playing on your apps.
  • Lumiere
    Lumiere is a GNOME frontend to libxine from the xine project. It has the looks of XMMS or Winamp and integrates seemlessly with the Gnome Desktop. It uses most of the Gnome technologies available (Intercommunication, configuration registry, session management...).
  • media-box
    media-box is for playing media files and viewing pictures. The program is being developed for a dedicated linux box.
  • MIM
    MIM allows viewing of MPEG-I streams multicasted according to RFC1889, RFC1890, RFC2250. These are video streams broadcasted at 30 fps over the mbone. Audio is typically in the form of mpeg layer 2 or 3.
  • mmp
    mmp is a simple but effective graphical frontend for mplayer or mpg123. It offers no support for playlists, but ships with an integrated directory browser.
  • Mozilla Media Player
    Mozilla Media Player is an attempt at creating an audio and video player much like Real Networks Real Player using mozilla components. The hope is that one day mozmp will support a bevy of audio formats, and a gaggle of video formats.

    MPEG Audio/Video Player is a simple MPEG and AC3 player for Linux, BSD, and Windows systems. It plays MPEG transport, program, and elementary stream files.     QuickASCII is a console-based movie player and picture viewer powered by Quicktime.
  • QuickVideo Player
    QuickVideo Player is a complete, end-to-end video streaming solution for Linux workstations.
  • QVCDGear
    QVCDGear is a graphical frontend for the console version of vcdgear. It is built on Linux, but will probably compile and run on other unices as well. Version 3 of the QT toolkit is required. QVCDGear is licensed under the GPL.
  • Qxmp
    Qxmp is a light media player (based on MPlayer) for Linux and Unix workstations. With Qxmp you can easily play a wide variety of video and audio files and streams using a simple and clean interface. Qxmp is not a complex media manager : it provides a simple and compact frontend to MPlayer, allowing you to just enjoy your media.
  • Sinek
    Sinek is a GTK+ video/audio player, capable of supporting all formats libxine supports. At the moment, this includes; Audio MPEG 1, 2, and 3, Vorbis (.ogg), Video MPEG 1 and 2, MPEG 4 (aka OpenDivX), MS MPEG 4 (aka DivX) and motion jpeg. One of the main differences between Sinek and other popular multimedia players is that it doesn't use skins; instead, it has a standard GTK+ interface.

    SMplayer is a new front-end for mplayer. It intends to be a much more complete front-end than the existing ones, for instance options to manage filters. SMplayer is multi-platform as it is being developed with the Qt toolkit. It works both in windows and linux, and it could be compile in other OS.
  • Sofa Media Center
    Sofa is a media center aimed at easy usage, minimal configuration, and total integration with the GNOME desktop environment and existing multimedia applications.
  • TCVP
    TCVP is a video and music player, transcoder and streaming server for Unix-like operating systems. It is primarily targeted at Linux, mainly because of lacking standards for audio and video output.
  • Tickle Tunes
    Tickle Tunes is a themeable front end to mplayer for playing songs, playlists, and videos.
  • ToxTox
    ToxTox is a media browser / WebTV platform. You can watch your favorite (Internet) movies and control them with a remote, or use ToxTox as a platform to develop TV applications and interactive services. It is based on Mozilla XulRunner and VLC. It uses open standards like Ogg Vorbis, OPML, RSS, SVG, HTML, etc.
  • trplayer
    The Text-Mode RealMedia Player (TRPlayer) is a RealMedia player for Unix which has a command-line interface. It can play RealAudio, RealVideo, MP3, and all other media types supported by RealPlayer under Unix. TRPlayer was designed especially for blind Unix users, who don't yet have access to the graphical user interface.
  • Xfmedia
    Xfmedia is a simple, easy-to-use media player based on the xine engine. The GTK+ GUI focuses on playing and managing audio files, but, being based on xine, supports video as well.
  • XMovie
    XMovie is a movie player for Quicktime movies with stereo sound. XMovie plays MJPA, PNG, JPEG, YUV 4:2:2, YUV 4:2:0, packed RGB movies with PCM, ulaw, and IMA4 sound.
  • Xtheater
    Xtheater is a gtk-based, GPLed multimedia player currently capable of playing MPEG-1 video and systems stream (video and video/audio).
