IBM warns Linux Desktop Developers not to copy Windows
IBM bosses have sent a warning to Linux Desktop Developers; they have told the open source community to make Linux like a desktop OS for consumers and businesses. What they mean by this is “Not to Copy Windows.”

Market Analysis System
The Market Analysis System (MAS) is an open-source software application that provides tools for analysis of financial markets using technical analysis. Some of the features of MAS are: Includes basic technical analysis indicators, such as Simple Moving Average, Exponential Moving Average, Stochastic, MACD, RSI, On Balance Volume, and Momentum, more advanced indicators, such as Standard Deviation, Slope of EMA of Volume, Slope of MACD Signal Line, Bollinger Bands, and Parabolic SAR. Users can also create new technical analysis indicators, including complex indicators based on existing indicators. MAS can be configured and run as a server that provides services for several clients at a time running on remote machines.

  • erec
    erec is a tool program for recording raw audio stream from the soundcard. Multiple instances of erec can be running at the same time sharing the same audio device. It works as a frontend to the audio device for programs wishing to listen at the same time.
  • flrec
    Flrec (Fast and Light RECorder) is a simple audio hard disk recorder written using FLTK toolkit. It can directly record in wav, mp3, ogg-vorbis, ecc.
  • GramoFile
    GramoFile enables you to record audio from (for example) gramophone records, process the signal and listen to the results. Because sound files in .WAV-format are used, it is possible to exchange the files with many other programs. Cdrecord(1) can burn CD-Recordables of these, so you can make CDs with the music of your favorite records. The user interface of GramoFile has a windows-like look-and-feel, making it fairly easy to use.
  • listener
    listener listens for sound. If it detects any, it starts recording automatically and also automatically stops when things become silent again.
  • Manauton
    Manauton is a program used to digitally record sound. Manauton can operate in a manual or autonomous mode, hence the name Manauton.
  • NotMD
    NotMD is aimed at simplifying the recording of MiniDiscs: the point of NotMD is to mimic as much as possible the behaviour of Sony's NetMD recorders for people that don't have NetMD.
  • Radiocap
    Radiocap is a GUI frontend to sox, oggenc, and lame for recording audio with a soundcard (WAV, Ogg, and MP3). It has a built in timer for scheduled capturing of radio programs. Recording levels are always displayed (even when recording has not started), which helps when adjusting the input gain.
  • rawPlay
    rawPlay reads in 16 bit signed little endian sound data and writes it to the dsp, while controlled by a signal driven "interface".
  • rawrec
    rawrec and rawplay are GPL'd utilities designed to provide the user with a simple way of recording or playing raw audio data from or to their sound card under intel Linux
  • Sound Recorder
    Sound Recorder is a simple program to record samples from your soundcard to a file. It has additional support for cdrom to record tracks. Uses threads and buffering to minimize ticks and allows recording in several different wav-types, pcm and cdr.
  • VSound
    VSound allows you to record the output of any standard OSS program (one that uses /dev/dsp for sound) without having to modify or recompile the program. It uses the same idea as the esddsp wrapper from the Enlightened Sound Daemon.
  • vsr
    Very Stupid sound Recorder is C code for a command-line sound recorder.
  • WMRecord
    WMRecord is a general purpose audio recording utility for X11, currently using the Open Sound System (OSS). The interface is designed to work in conjunction with WindowMaker's Dock or AfterStep's Wharf, two popular window managers for the X Window System.
