Amuc is an application for composing and playing music. Tune fragments are entered graphically, and combined into bigger pieces by means of a script file. Tunes can also be imported from MIDI. They can be exported as WAVE or MIDI files, or as human-readable scores in Postscript format. Continuous and percussive sounds are generated by dedicated algorithms, by mono synthesizers, or from WAVE samples.
The athenaCL system is an open-source, object-oriented composition tool written in Python. The system can be scripted and embedded, and includes integrated instrument libraries, post-tonal and microtonal pitch modeling tools, multiple-format graphical outputs, and musical output in Csound, MIDI, audio file, XML, and text formats.
Boodler is a tool for creating soundscapes -- continuous, infinitely varying streams of sound. Boodler is designed to run in the background on a computer, maintaining whatever sound environment you desire. Boodler is extensible, customizable, and modular. Each soundscape is a small piece of Python code -- typically less than a page. A soundscape can incorporate other soundscapes; it can combine other soundscapes, switch between them, fade them in and out.
Common Music (CM) is an object-oriented music composition environment. It produces sound by transforming a high-level representation of musical structure into a variety of control protocols for sound synthesis and display. Common Music defines an extensive library of compositional tools and an API through which the composer can easily modify and extend the system.
Radium is a graphic music-making environment with similarities to module trackers and MIDI sequencers.

Haskore is a means for describing music---in particular Western Music---rather than sound. It is not a vehicle for synthesizing sound produced by musical instruments, for example, although it does capture the way certain (real or imagined) instruments permit control of dynamics and articulation.
iabc is a free (open source) program for editing music. It uses the ABC music notation language to produce high-quality graphical notation or MIDI output. The music notation and the ABC notation can be updated in real-time, making the construction of tunes using the ABC language hassle-free (or at least hassle-resistant).
MUSOO is an online music environment kit for playing, listening, distribution, and collaboration. It's like Web-based sound CMS.
Mutabor is a program that allows you to perform and compose microtonal music using a normal MIDI keybord and normal MIDI equipment.
nGen is a free multi-platform computer-music application that creates computer music event lists. The current version (1.0.0) makes Csound event lists ("score" files) and standard MIDI files.
(commercial) Renoise is a contemporary digital audio workstation (DAW) based upon the heritage and development of tracker software. Its primary use is the composition of music using samples (in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Ogg, and MP3 format), and MIDI sequencing of VSTi soft synths.
