  • Procmail
Procmail can be used to create mail-servers, mailing lists, sort your incoming mail into separate folders/files (real convenient when subscribing to one or more mailing lists or for prioritising your mail), preprocess your mail, start any programs upon mail arrival (e.g. to generate different chimes on your workstation for different types of mail) or selectively forward certain incoming mail automatically to someone. • BiffLes
biffles does what does the "procmail" MDA does, but in one run. It is meant to be used off-line by dial-up clients where mail is fetched via a nightly cron-job, amassed localy, and then sorted.
  • Business Information Dispatcher
The BID software was designed to apply business rules to your email traffic. Business information can come from business applications, monitoring applications, or normal users requesting or providing data. The goal of the BID tool is to automate the dispatching of this information and to join a business-case with a responsible receiver. A receiver can be a human being or another BID server customized for a special business-case. The BID server was designed as a generic server using plugins to serve specific business-rules.
  • fdm
fdm is a simple, lightweight replacement for mail fetch, filter and delivery programs such as fetchmail and procmail. It can currently fetch using POP3, POP3S or from stdin, and deliver to a pipe, file, maildir, mbox or SMTP server, based on regexps.
  • femail
femail provides a sendmail-compatible command line interface and forwards mail via SMTP. Opposed to many other implementations, it is RFC 2821 and 2822 compatible. It embeds exra environment information from Apache in the header if present to help tracking down abuse.
  • FetchmailMon
FetchmailMon is a set of tools that allows the user to monitor fetchmail processes.
  • Grandma
Grandma is an e-mail delivery agent designed to sort e-mail into Maildir-type mailboxes based on e-mail addresses organized in lists. There is one e-mail address per line. A configuration file associates mailboxes with lists.
  • IndiMail
IndiMail is a mailing solution built upon qmail and other mailing software. IndiMail also provides management of virtual domains. IndiMail has the ability to distribute the users across multiple hosts. You can have multiple hosts hosting a domain placed anywhere and tied up by IndiMail. Indimail has multiple queues (called a queue collection). The system IDs and configuration files used by IndiMail are all configurable through a set of environment variables, allowing you to customize IndiMail the way you want.
  • maildir-bulletin
maildir-bulletin takes a message on standard input, i.e. it runs in the same fashion as a mailing list program, and puts the message in every user's Maildir.
  • maildirproc
maildirproc is a program that processes one or several existing mail boxes in the maildir format. It is primarily focused on mail sorting ? i.e., moving, copying, forwarding and deleting mail according to a set of rules. It can be seen as an alternative to procmail, but instead of being a delivery agent (which wants to be part of the delivery chain), maildirproc only processes already delivered mail.
  • maildrop
maildrop is the mail filter/mail delivery agent that's used by the Courier Mail Server. You do not need to download maildrop from here if you already have Courier installed. This is a standalone build of the maildrop mail filter that can be used with other mail servers. maildrop is a replacement for your local mail delivery agent. maildrop reads a mail message from standard input, then delivers the message to your mailbox. maildrop knows how to deliver mail to mbox-style mailboxes, and maildirs. "maildir" is a mailbox format used by Courier and Qmail. Read more
  • mailprocd
mailprocd is a standalone mail classification and delivery daemon for massive multiuser servers, designed to extend the capabilities of MTAs such as Postfix and sendmail. It embeds perl in C in order to use SpamAssassin efficiently. It implements a process manager with persistent spam checker processes running under users' own UIDs.
  • Masqmail
Masqmail is an MTA (mail transport agent) for notebooks, workstations, home servers, and generally any host with no permanent network connection.
  • MeTA1
MeTA1 is a modularized message transfer agent (MTA) consisting of five (or more) persistent processes, four of which are multi-threaded. A queue manager controls SMTP servers and SMTP clients to receive and send email messages, an address resolver provides lookups in various maps (including DNS) for mail routing, and a main control program starts the other processes and watches over their execution. The queue manager organizes the flow of messages through the system and provides measures to avoid overloading the local or remote systems by implementing a central control instance. It is simple to configure using a C-like syntax and is secure and efficient.
  • msmtp
msmtp is an SMTP client. In its main mode of operation, it reads a mail from standard input and sends it to a predefined SMTP server that takes care of proper delivery. This is done in a sendmail compatible way (regarding command line options and exit codes). In addition to the sendmail mode, there are two other modes of operation: Server information mode. In this mode, msmtp prints as much information as it can get about a given SMTP server (greeting, supported features, maximum mail size, ...). Remote Message Queue Starting mode. In this mode, msmtp sends a Remote Message Queue Starting request for a host, domain, or queue to a given SMTP server.
  • PowerMail
PowerMail is a redundant and distributed system for receiving and storing electronic mail. Furthermore, incoming email can be forwarded to other email addresses.
  • Putmail
Putmail is a very lightweight MTA or SMTP client that may replace the sendmail command when used by MUAs that lack SMTP support (such as Mutt, nail or mail).
  • Pymadea
Pymadea (PYthon MAil DElivery Agent) is a simple replacement for Procmail written in Python. Configuration files are ordinary Python scripts. Modules from Standard Library are used where possible.
  • topdrop
topdrop is a Mail Delivery Agent that can be used in combination with sendmail or any other MTA that allows external mail delivery agents.
  • Trestlemail
Trestlemail is a simple Perl-based MDA (Mail Delivery Agent) that works with Fetchmail to automatically redistribute multi-drop mail.
  • Yample
Yample is a processing language for email. It sorts for email based on criteria you define. It can deliver email to Unix mailboxes (MBOX), Maildirs (used by Courier IMAP and others) or pipes.
  • zmaildrop
zmaildrop is a mail delivery agent (MDA) specifically designed to analyse emails, extract relevant information and send it to Zabbix server.
