What are good command line HTTP clients?
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts is a very famous quote from Aristotle, a Greek philosopher and scientist. This quote is particularly pertinent to Linux. In my view, one of Linux's biggest strengths is its synergy. The usefulness of Linux doesn't derive only from the huge raft of open source (command line) utilities. Instead, it's the synergy generated by using them together, sometimes in conjunction with larger applications.

SoX
SoX, the swiss army knife of sound processing programs. SoX is a command line utility that can convert various formats of computer audio files in to other formats. It can also apply various effects to these sound files during the conversion. As an added bonus, SoX can play and record audio files on several unix-style platforms. Read more

  • Linux Letters and Numbers
    Linux Letters and Numbers is based on Larry's Learning Letters and Numbers. This is a Linux replacement, written from scratch, with many improvements. It was built using the GTK (Gimp ToolKit) for X.
  • MathWar
    MathWar is a flashcard math game in which the child plays against the computer to solve simple addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems before the computer player answers.
  • Multiplication Game
    Multiplication Puzzle is a simple GTK+ 2 game that emulates the multiplication game found in Emacs. Basically, a multiplication problem is shown with all digits replaced by letters. Your job is to guess which letter represents which number.
  • Multiplication Station
    Multiplication Station is an application to help memorize multiplication tables through 12x12. The user logs in and faces a blank 12x12 grid. The program gives all the products in random order. When a correct answer is given, the problem is marked "complete" and the corresponding grid cell displays the product (i.e. row * col).

    pybotwar is a fun and educational game where players write computer programs to control simulated robots.
  • pysycache
    PySyCache is an educational program for young children (4-7 years old). Its purpose is to teach them to manipulate the mouse by uncovering a picture with mouse movements.

    Schoolsplay is a collection of educational activities for children. Schoolsplay resembles the approach taken by the Childsplay and Gcompris projects but is designed to be less like a collection of games.

    The Linux Memory Game is an X11 game for children ages 3 and up, based on the card game "Memory". It is written using GTK+ library. Although it is a children's game, it has five skill levels, the higher ones are challenging to adults as well. It can also be a very good teaching tool for teaching languages, concepts, or association

    xletters is an X Windows game under Linux (or other unices) that helps you improve your typing skills as you try to catch falling words by typing them before they reach the ground.
