My favorite three responsive web design frameworks are Bootstrap, Foundation and Gumby, in that order. But sadly, development of Gumby has recently ceased. And these frameworks aren't necessarily the right solution for every project. For example, if you want to rapidly create a responsive design in the shortest possible time, you should consider a lightweight framework.

  • Micropolis
    Micropolis is a city simulation game engine based on the original classic SimCity source code. Micropolis is based on the Tcl/Tk version of SimCity. It consists of the micropolis module, which is the engine recast as a C++ class; the cellengine module, which is a cellular automata machine engine; and the tileengine module, which is a Cairo based tile renderer. It is intended to be used with the OLPC's Sugar user interface environment, but layered so the core code is useful in other contexts.
  • OpenCity
    Another city simulator written with OpenGL & SDL. You can build some RCI zones, electric plant and roads. Besides you can also raise or lower the terrain.
  • Pontifex 2
    (commercial) The offical sequal to the bridge building game Pontifex. In Pontifex II you design and build bridges. Once your bridge design is completed the bridge is tested by trains and other vehicles traveling across it.
  • Simutrans
    Simutrans is a transport and economic simulation game. There are versions for Linux, BeOS and Windows available. Simutrans has not yet reached production state, but it is quite possible to build big transport networks between the industries and cities. Read more

  • Unknown Horizons
    Unknown Horizons is a 2D realtime strategy simulation with an emphasis on economy and city building. Expand your small settlement to a strong and wealthy colony, collect taxes and supply your inhabitants with valuable goods.
