    Adie is an extremely fast and convenient programming text editor written using the FOX Toolkit. Besides being a nice text editor, Adie is also an extremely convenient file viewer, supporting a plethora of methods to move from one file to the next.
  • aXe
    A simple to use text editor for X windows.
  • CgEddie
    CgEddie is a very simple editor for writing and compiling Cg shaders. It supports syntax highlighting (and also semantics), auto indentation, and multiple file editing. It uses the nVidia Cg compiler to check shaders at run-time.
  • CodeEditor
    An attempt at creating a code editor for GNUstep. The grand plan is to use it as a component in ProjectCenter, and also as a stand-alone application.

  • GNU TeXmacs
    GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was both inspired by TeX and GNU Emacs. The editor allows you to write structured documents via a wysiwyg (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) and user friendly interface. New styles may be created by the user. The program implements high-quality typesetting algorithms and TeX fonts, which help you to produce professionally looking documents.
  • MEdit
    A free, graphic, multi-window, cross-platform text editor.
  • Minimum Profit
    A text editor, started back in 1991, developed in conjunction with a complete multiwindow text environment, MVE. Its original name was med (MultiEDitor), because it could open multiple documents each in a window simultaneously.
  • morla
    Morla is an editor of RDF documents, written in C. It is based on libnxml and librdf libraries. With Morla you can manage more RDF documents simultaneously, visualize graphs and use templates for quick writing.
  • MtScript
    MtScript is a multi-lingual text editor that enables using several different writing systems (Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, Greek, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) in the same document. MtScript provides typical editing functions such as insertion and deletion, even for text containing portions of writing in opposite directions.
  • NEdit
    NEdit is a multi-purpose text editor for the X Window System, which combines a standard, easy to use, graphical user interface with the thorough functionality and stability required by users who edit text eight hours a day. It provides intensive support for development in a wide variety of languages, text processors, and other tools, but at the same time can be used productively by just about anyone who needs to edit text. NEdit, which is entirely a volunteer effort, benefits from a strong developer and user community.
  • poEdit
    poEdit is cross-platform gettext catalogs (.po files) editor. It is built with wxWidgets toolkit and can run on any platform supported by it (although it was only tested on Unix with GTK+ and Windows). It aims to provide more convenient approach to editing catalogs than launching vi and editing the file by hand.
  • PyPE
    PyPE (Python Programmers Editor) was written in order to offer a lightweight but powerful editor for those of you who think emacs is too much and idle is too little. Syntax highlighting is included out of the box, as is multiple open documents via tabs.
  • reSTEditor
    reSTEditor is a simple editor that enables the user to create and to edit reStructuredText, to have a quick preview of the output of his text and to export the document into various formats by clicking only one button.
  • SEDIT
    (commercial) SEDIT is a powerful Windows and UNIX (tm) programmer's editor patterned after IBM's XEDIT and PDF editors. It provides a GUI interface which leverages the MOTIF or OPENLOOK X Window manager on UNIX and the standard GUI on Microsoft Windows to provide a text editing environment in which programmers familiar with IBM's mainframe XEDIT and/or PDF editors will feel quite comfortable.
  • SlickEdit
    (commercial) SlickEdit Inc. provides additional speed, power and flexibility to the most advanced code editor available. In the latest v10 release, SlickEdit has refined its look with updated icons and GUI, dockable tool windows, tab groups and auto hide tool windows.
  • Tickle Text
    Tony's Tickle Text Editor, or TclText, is a fast, lightweight text editor written in Tcl/Tk. It will run on Windows and Mac OS, but some of its functions only work in Linux, including calling xterm and printing via lpr. Background color choices include seashell, tomato, orange, yellow, pale green, light blue, plum, and, white. It has an external program launcher, so you can launch a browser to check HTML files you are editing, open another terminal, launch kshisen and take a break, etc.
  • wxGuide-Editor
    A mature editor using wxStyledTextCtrl which is based on Scintilla.
  • wyoEditor
    wyoEditor is especially designed to be easy usable through a well-designed GUI and is cross-platform to be used on many different platforms (e.g. Linux, MacOS, Windows). wyoEditor uses wxScintilla, an editing component of wxCode, which itself is based on the Scintilla library.
  • xae
    xae features include pop-up menus, journalling (to recover from system crash or loss of connection), cut-and-paste, multiple buffers (associated with files or not), and much more.
  • Xcoral
    Xcoral is a multiwindow mouse-based text editor for Unix and X Window System. Syntax highlighting and auto-indentation are available. A built-in browser enables you to navigate through C functions, C++ and Java classes, methods and files. A SMall Ansi C Interpreter (Smac) is also built-in to dynamically extend the editor's possibilities (user functions, key bindings, modes etc). Xcoral provides regions and marks, kill-buffers, macros system and unlimited undo.
  • XXE
    XMLmind XML Editor is a validating XML editor featuring a word processor-like view. It supports the DTD, W3C XML Schema, RELAX NG schemas, XML namespace, XSLT, XPath, XInclude, XML catalog standards.
  • zedit
    zedit is a simple text editor that is meant to be very small and featureless.
  • Zoinks
    A programmer's text editor and development environment for Linux and other systems running the X11 window system. Zoinks is a Mac-like programmer's editor that should seem familiar to people that have used MPW or CodeWarrior.
