5 best open source board games to play online
Board games have seen a resurgence in recent years, and Linux has a good range of board games to choose from. There is a credible implementation of Catan called Pioneers. But for my favourite implementations of classic board games to play online, check out the recommendations below.

  • Cdrdao
Cdrdao records audio or data CD-Rs in disk-at-once (DAO) mode based on a textual description of the CD contents (toc-file). Features include: Full control over length and contents of pre-gaps (pause areas between tracks), Control over sub-channel data, Support for exact audio, data and mixed mode CD copying, Support for exact audio, data and mixed mode CD copying. hot
  • cdrecord
Allows the creation of both audio and data CDs. Writes in TAO and DAO mode. Cdrecord supports all SCSI-3/mmc and ATAPI/mmc compliant drives as well as IDE/ATAPI, parallel-port, and SCSI drives. hot
  • audio_burn
A command-line audio cd burning application written in C. It uses libaudioburn (also written in C) for all of the real work. audio_burn uses cdrecord internally. The advantage of audio_burn is that you can mix and match audio file types and get a nice uniform sounding cd.
  • Burgner
The Burgner project aims to be a complete free burning suite, totally rewritten from scratch: it does not include any code from cdrtools (cdrecord and mkisofs) nor cdrdao, and is not a front-end for these tools.
  • Burn-CD
Burn-CD is a handy frontend for the well-known cd/dvd writing packages cdrkit & dvd+rw-tools. It's written in the Python programming language and intended for use on any modern UNIX-like system.
  • burnCDDA
burnCDDA is a console frontend to cdrdao, cdrecord, mpg123, oggdec, mppdec, flac, normalize, and mp3_check. It can be used to create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS and amaroK). It supports MP3, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, FLAC, and WAV files, and it might be the easiest way to copy an audio CD.
  • burncenter
Burncenter is a very easy-to-use text-based interface to cd-burning tools under UNIX (cdrecord/burncd, cdda2wav, mkisofs).
  • CDR Dialog
An easy-to-use and easy-to-configure front-end for CD writing software. The design goals of CDR Dialog are: low system/ software requirements, 1:1 copies for Audio/ Data CDs, creation of Data CDs from a directory (e.g. for backups), high quality of the copy.
  • cdrecord-ProDVD
cdrecord-ProDVD writes DVD-R, DVD-RW and allows you to create true (clone) copies of other CDs.
  • cdrkit
cdrkit is CD Recording Kit, a collection of applications related to creation of optical disk media on Unix platforms. It is heavily based on the cdrtools package (partially developed and maintained by Joerg Schilling before), but is maintained independently.
  • cdwrite
cdwrite is a shell for reading, writing, and copying audio CDs as well as for creating and writing ISO images on CD media and data or ISO images on DVD media.
  • Dialog CD Writer
Dialog CD Writer is a dialog front end to burn CDs under GNU/Linux and Unix.
  • DupISO
DupISO aims to be an easy-to-use interface of CDRecord intended to simplify the process of burning preset ISO files to multiple CD:s, propably using numerous burners at once.
  • dvd+rw-tools
dvd+rw-tools makes it possible to burn DVD images created by "dvdauthor" or "mkisofs" to DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW disks, replacing "cdrecord-proDVD" in many cases. The package contains "growisofs" to burn DVD images or create a data DVD on the fly, "dvd+rw-format" to format a DVD+RW, "dvd+rw-mediainfo" to give details about DVD disks, and some programs to control the write speed and obtain information from DVD-RAM.
  • HacBurn
A script written in perl to aid in writing CDs. It is a graphical interface (using gtk+) to cdrtools, mpg321 and ogg123.
  • mkisofs
The mkisofs tool is used for premastering iso9660 filesystems which are used on CDROMs. The output of mkisofs can then be sent to a CDROM writer with a utility such as cdrecord.
  • MP3Roaster
MP3Roaster is a Perl hack for burning audio CDs out of MP3 OGG Vorbis and FLAC files. The main highlights of this application are an easy to use command line syntax and automatic volume leveling support for best audio CD quality.
  • Phaser
A frontend to cdrecord with the aim of making cd burning under Linux easier.
  • rcdrecord
A command line client of webCDwriter that tries to offer the functionality of cdrecord over the network (not complete yet). In addition to this there are several extensions like using MP3s for audio CDs and adding files to a data CD made easy by the command files2cd.
  • Simpleburner
Simpleburner is a CLI application to make burning CDs/DVDs easier. You create the directory with your files to burn (the default is /tmp/burner) and run simpleburner from command line.
  • TCDR
A dialog-based console frontend for mkisofs, cdrecord, cdrdao, cdparanoia, cdda2wav, bladeenc, mpg123, and sox written in bash.
