The terminal emulator is a venerable but essential tool for computer users. The reason why Linux offers so much power is due to the command line. The Linux shell can do so much, and this power can be accessed on the desktop by using a terminal emulator. There are so many available for Linux that the choice is bewildering.

    MCNLive is a complete operating system running from CD or USB stick. It is based on Mandriva Linux and designed for desktops and notebooks. Included software for all your needs: internet applications, office suite, networking tools, multimedia software. MCNLive operates in a so-called live mode.
  • Mentoppix
    Mentoppix is a Live CD remastered from Knoppix by Mento (Galuh Prasetyawan).
  • mGSTEP Live CD
    mGSTEP 0.536 is also available on a Linux-2.4.24 bootable Demo CD.
  • Microdrive
    Microdrive is a tiny (3MB) live CD distribution and a set of scripts that generate it using isolinux, busybox, and your host system. An initrd image allows you to modify it to your hearts content. It is based on busybox, isolinux and slackware.
    MIOLUX ia a Brazilian distribution based on Knoppix.
  • MooLux
    MooLux is a Slackware-based GNU/Linux distribution which focuses on Internet applications, multimedia and programming tools. It is a complete system with software for Internet browsing, mail, chat, multimedia and office, game as well as for programming in C, Perl, and Python. The main objectives of MooLux Linux are to be simple and one task one application, be a complete development and desktop environment such KDE and to be small enough to fit on a 393MB ISO image.

    NimbleX is a small but versatile operating system which is able to boot from a small 8 cm CD, USB, HDD and even LAN. It has a graphical interface and also a lot of built in software for browsing the internet, writing documents, listening to music, playing movies and many more.     The OGo Knoppix CD is a bootable CD which contains a complete Debian GNU/Linux system, a fully configured OGo installation, a Cyrus server and some more Linux software. It's based on the original Knoppix CD.
  • OnebaseGo
    Onebase Linux is a community based operating system (OS) based on the linux kernel for PC (x86). It provides several inhouse features and comes with an enlarging Software gallery (with seemless support for source or binary installs).
  • openmamba
    openmamba GNU/Linux is a ready-to-use operating system for notebooks, desktop and server personal computers. It comes with a plenty of software programs for office, multimedia, internet, games and much more.
  • PapugLinux
    PapugLinux is a light (220 MB) Gentoo based operating system. This live CD contains Fluxbox windows manager & various desktop applications such as AbiWord, Firefox, Sylpheed, XMMS, ... Default keyboard mapping is french but polish and english are also supported. The server side has not been forgotten with Apache, Cups, Ssh and ProFTP.
  • Pardus Live CD
    Pardus Live CD is a bootable CD edition of the Pardus National Operating System. It is distributed to the participants of Akademik Bilisim in Gaziantep University (Turkey).
  • Parsix
    Parsix GNU/Linux is based on Knoppix and Debian Sarge. It uses Gnome as its default desktop environment. Parsix GNU/Linux supports Persian keyboard and user can switch to Persian with Alt+Shift keys.
  • PCG-C1VN
    PCG-C1VN is built using Debian's testing branch as an installation base and the bootcd package to bundle the installation into a working bootable CD. Supported features include: Jog Dial, Audio, Motion Eye Camera, J-Mouse, USB Hotplugging, and more.
  • PLD Live CD
    PLD Live CD is a bootable CD that contains a live Linux distribution based on the PLD Linux distribution. It uses squashfs transparent compression to fit huge amount of packages on a single CD, including OpenOffice, KDE, Gnome, WindowMaker, XFCE, and many more.
  • Polyspool
    Polyspool combines the Common Unix Printing System, Ghostscript, Samba, and a live Linux CD to create an easy-to-use open source print spooler capable of supporting Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux clients. Polyspool provides a simple Web interface and requires no knowledge of Linux commands to successfully deploy. Because Polyspool uses the standard PostScript driver bundled with the Windows operating systems and Ghostscript to render the print job, only one driver needs to be installed for any supported printer.

It is based on Slax Frodo Edition with some modifications needed to simplify use of AoE. ATA over Ethernet (AoE) is a network protocol designed for accessing ATA storage devices over Ethernet networks.

  • Taprobane GNU/Linux

  • Ubuntu Live CD
    The live CD allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and is available for Intel x86, PowerPC and AMD64.
  • Ubuntu Privacy Remix
    Ubuntu Privacy Remix is a modified live CD based on Ubuntu Linux. UPR is not intended for permanent installation on a hard disk. The goal of Ubuntu Privacy Remix is to provide an isolated working environment where private data can be dealt with safely. The system installed on the computer running UPR remains untouched. It does this by removing support for network devices as well as local hard disks. Ubuntu Privacy Remix includes TrueCrypt and GnuPG for encryption and introduces "extended TrueCrypt volumes".
    ULTILEX stands for "Ultimate Linux Experience". This is a live Linux CD compilation which in turn contains several live Linux distributions. You can boot ULTILEX from CD/DVD and USB flash devices.
