Board games have seen a resurgence in recent years, and Linux has a good range of board games to choose from. There is a credible implementation of Catan called Pioneers. But for my favourite implementations of classic board games to play online, check out the recommendations below.

Firefox for Android
Firefox for Android is a web browser for the Android platform which is built on the same technology platform as Firefox for desktop computers, just optimized for browsing on a mobile device.

  • AprendeClick
    AprendeClick is a live CD which contains a collection of interactive and educational software, many of which are games. It mainly meant for Spanish speakers. This collection helps children learn several skills.
  • eduKnoppix
    eduKnoppix is a live CD specifically targeted for italian schools. eduKnoppix has two major features: it comes with a comprehensive range of various Mathematics packages, as well as resources to obtain the European Computer Driver's License with only free software.
  • eLearniX
    FreeLoader & Elearnix are bootable Linux CD's. They let you try linux without making any hard drive changes. No knowledge of linux is required but you must know how to burn a cd from an ISO.
  • Freeduc
    The Organization for Free Software in Education and Teaching (OFSET) has produced Freeduc, a Knoppix/Debian-based Linux system with educational software
  • iloog
    iloog is a Gentoo-based live CD targeted mainly at students and scientists. It features UnionFS filesystem support that enables you to write everywhere on the LiveCD and install extra packages, a graphical X environment through the Fluxbox window manager, many programming editors and IDEs, and a plethora of scientific applications, including Octave, Namd, Merlin, and full (La)TeX support.
  • Knosciences
    KnoSciences is a Knoppix bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. It is not necessary to install anything.
  • Kuliax
    Kuliax is designed for education in university. It has many applications and system services for computing in a campus environment, especially for information and technology related departments. Kuliax is based on Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable and KNOPPIX.
  • Lernstick
    Lernstick is a Live Linux distribution with focus on education; it is usually installed on USB sticks. To provide up-to-date software choice on a solid base, it uses a combination of Debian stable with official and custom backports.
  • Qimo 4 Kids
    Qimo 4 Kids is a Ubuntu-based distribution, similar to Edubuntu, but a bit more visually attractive to youngsters.
  • Quantian
    Quantian is a remastering of Knoppix, the self-configuring and directly bootable cdrom/dvd that turns any pc or laptop (provided it can boot from cdrom/dvd) into a full-featured Linux workstation. Recent versions of Quantian are based on clusterKnoppix and add support for openMosix, including remote booting of light clients in an openMosix terminal server context. It is a Knoppix / Debian variant tailored to numerical and quantitative analysis.
  • Skolelinux
    Skolelinux (aka debian-edu) is a custom Debian distribution.
  • Sugar on a Stick
    Sugar on a Stick is a Fedora Spin Live USB operating system featuring the award-winning Sugar Learning Platform and designed to fit on an ordinary USB thumbdrive ("stick").
  • Ubuntu Christian Edition
    Ubuntu Christian Edition is a free, open source operating system geared towards Christians. It is based on the popular Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu Christian Edition includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core desktop installation fits on a single CD. Read more
  • USU
    USU is a Linux distribution developed in Bulgaria. It is based on the latest version of Ubuntu, and uses GNOME desktop environment. It's primary goal is to be useful in the educational sphere - for students and teachers, but it has many features which make it useful at home for multimedia, Internet etc.
