CloudForms – management tool for virtual and private cloud infrastructure

Red Hat CloudForms is an open hybrid Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud-management product.

It delivers the flexibility and agility that businesses want with the control and governance that IT needs. It is a feature-rich product providing discovery, policy-management, web-service integration, and automation capabilities for hybrid cloud environments. It relies on over 60 open source projects.

CloudForms include application lifecycle management capabilities as well as the capability to create hybrid public and private clouds from the broadest range of computing resources with unique portability across physical, virtual and cloud computing resources.

Features include:

  • Comprised of a single component, the CloudForms Management Engine.
  • Feature sets:
    • Insight: Discovery, Monitoring, Utilization, Performance, Reporting, Analytics, Chargeback, and Trending.
    • Control: Security, Compliance, Alerting, Policy-Based Resource and Configuration Management.
    • Automate: IT Process, Task and Event, Provisioning, Workload Management and Orchestration.
    • Integrate: Systems Management, Tools and Processes, Event Consoles, CMDB, RBA, and Web Services.
  • Supports web-based access to your specified service catalogs with role-delegated automated provisioning, quota enforcement, and chargeback across virtualization and cloud platforms, including those from Red Hat, VMware, Microsoft, and Amazon.
  • Resources are automatically and optimally used via policy-based workload and resource orchestration, ensuring service availability and performance. You can simulate allocation of resources for what-if planning and continuous insights into granular workload and consumption levels to allow chargeback, showback, and proactive planning and policy creation.
  • Unified monitoring, management, and automation across enterprise clouds and globally distributed, virtualized datacenters.
  • Dynamically and automatically ensure the most efficient use of your resources, including the ability to:
    • Discover and track resource changes.
    • Provision and de-provision resources based on policies and demand.
    • Identify the current condition of resources and the best fit for new workloads across compute, storage, and network resources.
